On the mark one dashboard, what is the recessed oblong shape under the radio for? My car is a 1988 Merit, but I've seen the same thing on a 1985 SR too. It just looks a bit odd and it's not even in the middle! To be honest,I'd never noticed it until I gave a workmate a lift the other day and they asked me what it was for.
I think it is a ftront to rear audio fade for some models on the continent? I could be wrong though.

That's what it was, a mate of mine when I was younger had it on his SR b reg, never seen once since tbh.
more common on the GTE iirc

Many thanks for the quick replies.I've just been looking on ebay,as you do and I've come across a MK1 dash(item number 36092339250) and stone the crows,I think it's got the fader thingy still fitted.
