Hi iv got a 1.6 16v corsa sport thats running a mantzel power box and 4-1 manifold what would be the best gearbox for acceleration i think its currently running a f17 iv checked the end casing and it says c374
It seems to drop down the revs to much on gear changes im not bothered about top speed i just want quick acceleration thanks matt

I have a similar engine setup to you. Initially a ran a F13CR from a nova gte/gsi. This was quick off the mark and then up through the gears. But ultimately it was too short. I now run a corsa gearbox that I believe to be a F15, although it's not stamped clearly on the casing like nova gearboxes. This is a much better suited gearbox and makes it much more drivable, cruising at lower revs on motorways, but losing the edge on acceleration against the F13CR.

I think ill go for a f13cr then also use a gte/gsi flywheel and clutch i used to have a 1.2 corsa with a c16xe in with same mods so must of been on a f13cr on that as when i changed gear in that it would still be up in the power range of the revs all the time this corsa seems to drop down the revs to much making it slower

I had an F15CR which was spot on (probably same ratios as an F13CR)

just buy a 3.9 or 4.1 diff and pinion and fit that to the box you already have. you already have the close ratio gearing it`ll only be the differential that's different in the f13 gearbox.

Mine had the lighter nova flywheel as well. But like I said, the F15 suits it better as an all rounder.
but if you just want acceleration, then I suppose the the F13CR is for you.

I use an F13CR with 4.18 FD and it made a huge difference to acceleration. As post above says I recomend changing your final drive to 4.1 or 3.9. 3.9 might be a bit much, but if you're not bothered about top end...

the 3.9 would have more top end than the 4.1, if you wanted even more acceleration you could fit a 4.3 FD now that would shorten the top end but would be very rev happy, I use the 4.3 at Skegness oval raceway which is a short track compared to my local buxton track where I use a 4.1. Another way off gaining acceleration without changing a diff would be to swap the cr gearing for the cr gearing from a mk1 astra but they are 4 speed and also expensive

Is this for a road car?
If so then the standard f13cr with a GTE clutch and flywheel will be suitable or the F15cr also.

Yeah, I was thinking the wrong way round, my bad.
