Anyone gone direct to turret using a cavvy internal shifter? worth doing/any problems with doing it?

the mk1/2 astra went straight to the shifter with only a rubber uj under the bonnet.. but tbh, it wasn't noticeably better than a nova gear change

Pretty sure Astras had the same linkage as a Nova.

not the mk1 or mk2.. maybe mk3 did, but never had any reason to look on the one I owned.

Mk 2 Astra defo the same setup as Novas as I have one here not sure about mk1 will check on that but this was a question i was going to ask myself I have seen internal selectors veer off to the left so I take it that's connected straight to the selector on the box

Mk1 and early Mk2 definitely have the direct type linkage

The main problem with using a Cavalier type shifter direct to turret is the linkage rod moves in the opposite direction to what is required, hence why they all have the pivot bar

As above, It will not work. You need a selector which pulls the shift bar backwards when the lever is thrown forwards. In layman's terms anything which is rod shift with the rod connecting under the ball joint.

Saab 9000 looks like it might work.

That is what I was thinking also unless you reverse how you select gears so first third and fifth are st the back not the front or fit a rose joint pivot at the shifter end ?

A Type 9 (Sierra gearbox) gear lever and rod operate in a similar fashion to the Quaife shifter units so I'd imagine with modification it could be made to work as a cheaper alternative...but as the Escort lads pay mega money for Type 9s its probably cheaper to buy a Quaife unit lol
