Nova gsi 1.6 8v failed mot on emissions yesterday it was just carbon monoxide it failed on its a h reg no cat help
it is adjustable on an e16se.. but check for air leaks on flexi & rubber air pipes then maybe change the CTS just to make sure

Sounds like it's you that's high on monoxide, there fella.
Open the garage door when you are redlining your boat anchor, after fitting your twin-upswept DTM.
If you need any further advice, feel free to PM me.

Ive checked pipe work

there is a co adjuster screw on the ECU, which is located on top of the AFM.
as for the CTS, it is the coolant temperature sensor, it is either on the head, under the dizzy, or behind the intake manifold where is an ally box with 2 water pipes connected to it..

the big flexi pipes usually split, causing a heap of trouble. there is also the ICV, this is next to the inlet manifold & has 2 rubber air pipes and an electrical connector. this is basically an electronic choke. if this fails, it is permanently on, so people turn the tickover down to compensate, but the co is too high

Check the position of the distributor/cam pick up. If its moved the base timing will be out and will effect the CO. post the fail report results, if the CO was out, the lambda must be out a good way too. makes it easier to fault find.
e16se has no lambda.
only the later c16se has one.

the lambda of the test, not the car :p
for the hoses, check properly by spraying carb cleaner over them and if the idle speed increases then you have a split that you cant see.

.yes....but 'lambda' still measured on the emissions test. which is a good indication of what's going on.
my G reg car is fitted with an e16se.
I was told at a previous mot test, with a tester of decent repute, that my car didn't actually need an emissions test, just a visual check.
Well that helps the op no end....
I as trying to work out why my car with the same engine & a late g registration is apparently not required to have an emissions test, yet an h reg car with the same spec is....
that is all..
