Cracking day today. 4 of us went out at 11am, 1 ran out of fuel, 1 caught fire, 1 did some ploughing at Camp and the last 1 stalled it on the pit exit and needed up bump start.

Our second session was also pretty eventful. I think a certain GTE spent more time off the track. lol

Novas are offically drift cars after today IMO haha,
Wish i hadnt ran out of fuel on the dry laps, but i managed a whole session on track without breaking down and needing a tow, 1st for everything i suppose, just checking the footage of johnnys from the go pro, upside thou, will upload some vids and some of my spins are funny, got to do some editing mind, the one session is 5gb :(

haha loving it, also matt you know i said about the wheel rubbing when cornering, its not my wheel its the driveshaft on the chassis leg, had a quick look when i got home lol
my cuz has a load of pics of us all out on track should be giving me a dvd so ill get some pics and videos up in the next couple of days also, Knackered is an understatement

Well I made it back fine was a long old day but good fun especially the camo dragon homeing in on plugs car spitting flames out while boosting up and Johnny putting his foot down thinking the police were after him in fact or was the track ambulance screaming PULL OVER YOUR ON FIRE lol

Does suit it imo. Haven't fit the ducts as I need to remove the bumper to get it on the trailer. Plus I dont tend to cook my brakes anyway.

johns rocker cover gasket blew and spat oil all over the turbo unlucky!! But combe where on top form and saved it!!!

Not coilovers so isnt quite the same. But running 400 on the front and 300 maybe 350 on the back.
oh right, saying that my rear coilers are set rock hard lol more tyre bounce than shock movement, Just pricing up a full set of R888's what compound would people recommend? Sg, 1G, 2G

Fair play, you were on it far quicker then me. Took me a few laps to grow some balls. lol Saying that I never fell off the track. :p although I'd put that slide down as a save as you pulled it back straight.
Your car goes well in a straight line though. Theoretically mine has 60 odd bhp on yours and there wasn't much in it up Avon rise.

I have done alot more track days there so know the track and to some extent what my car is capable of. As you say, it was your first outing for a while.
You are right. In a straight line not alot in it. You had more legs but 2 tenths of naff all IMO.
Looking forward to the next one already.

Is yours the let? personally id be running muvh higher poundage springs on the rear of yours. i did a few tracks in mine with 400lb rears.

yea ive got the let, why you reckon higher? its gaz coilovers at the back, Damper is set as stiff as it will go iirc with 180lbs at 10" long i think, Theres no weight in the back of the nova so shouldnt need high poundage springs?

Soft rear springs means a lot of weight will transfer to the rear when youre accelerating. It'll 'squat' a lot more and give less front end traction. I found stiffer rears also gave less understeer anain because of more weight sitting over the front. Its all personal choice though.
Worth trying different springs if you can borrow some and see which feel best

Plus with heavy springs you can back the shocks off and get some rebound for the corners

I have stripped down area today and was able to ascertain the cause of the fire and the damage caused.
After a pressure wash I had a look at the cam cover:

I removed it and the gasket looked like this:

Very very minor warping of the cam cover which was no doubt only caused by the actual fire itself

The only real damage occurred with two looms that run along the back of the bulkhead where the fire was, one was the primary lamda sensor:

The other loom is the wideband sensor loom.
In conclusion the fire was caused by the heat from the turbo heating and cooling (many times) the cam cover gasket until it went brittle and cracked, once cracked the engine oil could escape and dribble down the head onto the exhaust manifold. During the race the manifold goes cherry red... which is enough to ignite the leaking oil! The flames were pushed down the bulkhead and under the car due to the strong airflow through the engine bay.

not to bad damage then and a little heat shield and protection should sort that out then ? The burnt bits are all bolt of bits then ?
Better off stiffer springs and softer damping. Id look into some stiffer ones to try hobbit
I wouldn't mind going stiffer all round but it would have to be custom springs as I like my Bilsteins to much. Plus I've always found coilovers to be too harsh for road driving.
At the moment its really forgiving and predictable so that suits me while I learn how to drive it.
Maybe look into running a similar set up to olly. Much cheaper and much more options available to you
