here we go......
im running atf in a motorsport nova that is being absolutely hammered.
Il report back at the end of the season.
My astra cdti 1.3 has ran it since 2011.3 years and 34thousand miles.
No problems

I know the Getreg RWD gearboxes are rated to take ATF but I don't know about FWD boxes

its a 1.2 nova... get some sae 80w-90... no other oil will miraculously transform its performance

Gm use ATF in their fwd cars too. Its oil, it works and its cheap.

it is, but sae 80w-90 is what they specced for the f10 box.

it depends what the op is doing, stripping the box, or just topping it up

I accept that ATF is specified for some gearboxes/more modern, it was recommended as a change for rover SD1 gearboxes from the standard oils, which I run in my own car

ATF isn't the correct spec for a F10, although it may work perfectly well.

The question wasn't what oils can I get away with in an F10

I knew this would cause a debate. I've always used ATF in my f10's. Never had an issue.

At at least when it's red and you see a patch of oil on the floor you easily know if it is from the gearbox or power plant.

given the F10 and F13 have zero internal differences (in the grand scheme of things... yes different ratios and some are 4spd/5spd), and ATF or DEXIII are the gm oil of choice for the F13, I'd be more than happy with ATF in an F10

Infact I've split many many F10's that are full of the nasty red stuff :)

My system at work says ep 80-90. That's direct from Comma. Which is taken from GM specs.

I thought I would get a straight answer from this and not cause a debate lol

Given its a normal car doing normal things, you could use vegetable oil lol

if it was something special (and by that I mean NOT a vauxhall) then yes I'd put fancy pants oil in

Use ATF and just change it regularly. I'd rather have ATF changed every 2k than fancy fluid for 10k.

Iv never heard of strong evidence from the haters NOT to use ATF.Yet I can present at least 2 examples to back up my claims.
Come to autograss, watch me smash off the limiter into 2nd gear every race.lol
Infact my 6speed Astra Cdti has run the stuff for years.Guess who gave me that on warranty with a DMF and clutch kit?
