Have you changed waterpump and put in a different position. As its eccentric it will have an effect on getting the belt on. Otherwise have you tried another belt or checked yours hasn't been packaged wrong?

have you put the 2 belts side by side and checked for difference in length? would also be worth counting the teeth on each belt.

try googling the part numbers on the belt that was originally fitted to your engine and see if you can cross reference the numbers.

luckily for you I work in an autofactors and were quiet today.

for the x14xe, c16xe and x16xe there is only 1 cambelt listed, 169 teeth 20mm wide.

QH part number qtb379

Thanks for your reply I went my local car parts and I found I needed a 169 tooth belt that was fitted to pre 98 xe but it's on now and all trimmed up thanks again
