Cleaning a cone air filter

My xe has the k and n cone type air filter. Are these supposed to be cleaned periodically and if so how?

Put it in the dish washer lol and re oil when dry

Be very very careful oiling them. As it can sometimes kill the AFM.

Do you use engine oil or a thin spray of wd40?

Unfortunately...I am the dishwasher lol
