You need somebody to press the clutch pedal after the clutch inspection cover is removed and fit the little U shaped clamps all round. Then you unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel, withdraw the shaft and drop the clutch out. Piece of pish, 30 minute job.

Why on earth would you do that. GM designed it so that a clutch replacement can be done in 30 mins with no requirement to remove the box.

What box are you running? Some later F13's have a fixed shaft.

yeah I think its 1st cog just looked in an astra manual and that shows my type of box will have a look tomorrow and see. Ive read that the shafts are very tight will a slide hammer work ok ?

Take a photo of the box with end plate removed but it's the input shaft should be near the top and inline with the shaft through the clutch there is a clip then a bolt Allen key I think that you remove then get a longer bolt the same thread thread that into the shaft and a pair of grips pull the shaft out that after you clip the clutch obvs

Slide hammer can be used if you are gentle. You do get a small one in the proper removal kit.

Hi Guys - First thread here for me.
I have a Nova SR 1988 from new - covered 215,000 miles and decided to change the clutch.
Problem is the Haynes book is lying to me - says i have an input shaft end cover/bolt to unscrew before i withdraw the shaft. Not so.
I only have the large side plate.
I am assuming i can remove the full plate and carry on?

Im a little concerned with a previous comment that some gearboxes dont have a withdrawable shaft......:0

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ta!

If it's an F10 it should have removable shaft
