fuel filter

Hi there I have a mk 2 gsi with a 20xe and there was an additional standard type filter thing with a screw type bolt at the top of it and its right next to fuel pump I have taken it off does this matter or should I put it back on...????

That is the fuel pressure regulator isnt it

That sounds like the thing the evens out the flow of fuel from the pump.
If it is it isn't really needed. I binned mine years ago.

It's at the rear of the car next to external fuel pump...
