288mm brake setup on a nova

Anyone have 288mm calipers fitted on a nova? Heard people have had problems with them?

can I get an upgraded master cylinder off of any other old school vauxhalls?

I've got 288mm on mine, standard 1.2 servo I think and I haven't had any problems with them.

Been looking into putting 288s on, but there's a lot of talk about excess brake pedal travel....?



ive decided to go for 256mm now, nothing worse that loads of travel in the pedal in my opinion!.

I get a strong bite around 1/3rd of the way down on travel whereas the other halfs standard 1.2 setup starts biting immediately but nowhere near as strong obviously.

Yes Dave, go sniffing on ebay for Lotus Elise discs. Make damn sure you pick the correct ones, I just picked a new pair up for £26 delivered (new).

You want: Lotus Elise 2000 onwards, 288mm, 4x100, 60mm centre bore.

Apart from the centre bore these are a perfect 100% fit, even the little disc securing screw is in the correct place :D
To correct the centre bore get on egay again and search from alloy wheel spigots, you want the ones which go from 60.1 to whatever Novas centre bore is

And in 280 you can use meriva 4 stud discs with the 288mm callipers without any major issues, just a small amount of pad overhang.

I've got a cav turbo setup sat in my shed, keep debating what to do with them, as if i fit them ideally I need a gsi/gte servo..
Pluss you have to watch what wheels your using, only certain 15's fir over.

I'm using 288 discs and calipers off a v6 calibra (iirc) drilled to 4 stud. With a GTE servo.
There is a adjuster nut on the break pedal that I adjusted. That helped with pedal travel.
They work well at stopping IMO. And that's with extra weight of C20LET sat up front.

I'd rather redrill discs (a very easy job) than have 8mm of pad hanging off the end...

I had them with drums fitted and they felt ok. Fitted rear disc and it all went to pot.

I use Fiat Coupe discs. Brake pedal feel is ok, not a great deal happens for the first 1/3-1/2 travel but I quite like that. They do work obviously, just lightly.
