Anyone want to take a guess? Got a pal coming up to have a look, nova is fully stripped out already primed and flat, but he may want to re sand so it's done to his standards. Any guesses?

It depends how good he really is, look at twags wip though. He paid a top price for a professional to do his and even his has become a disaster.

Mates rates are fine as long as you want to be still friends if it goes tits up IMO.

£500-£1000 would get you a decent job if your mate knows his stuff.

You usually end up way down the priority list with mates too!!

dgbnova#1
25-03-14, 10:24 PM
Second that ^ mates rates = mates lates

brainsnova
25-03-14, 10:49 PM
£300 and you buy the consumables

Mieran
25-03-14, 11:06 PM
I wouldn't touch it if its been primed by someone else lol, they couldve made a mess of it which will make things much harder afterwards

This.

When i had mine painted by a place i used to work (mates rates) we did 10% of the prep and left he rest for them. £900 all in.

Well the price is in Scott you are the man, 800 to keep it white inc new rear arches as the old ones rust has started to show, a few dints that I didn't notice, skirts bonded and filled and some welding inthe engine bay, very happy with that

brainsnova
26-03-14, 06:18 PM
Oh I thought it was mates rates

dgbnova#1
26-03-14, 06:25 PM
That's fair I'd say

skirt bonding standard skirts ? Just get clips from vauxhall

Scottcooper85
26-03-14, 06:36 PM
That's a great price considering he's putting rear arches in too and also taking into account I've just been quoted £100 for a fuel tank painting.

What happens when you want to remove the front wings

8valve-craig
26-03-14, 06:41 PM
A good price considering he's doing the arches. Watch him though, as if he cuts corners there (no pun intended) the paintjob wont last in that area.

richi
26-03-14, 06:47 PM
He is a good lad he wouldn't botch it up, he was the one who pointed out the faults that would need fixing even the bad ones, and sorry when I ment sideskirts I ment the bit on the rear arch

turbojolt
26-03-14, 06:51 PM
I would be well chuffed with that price, try and get him to take photos as he goes along mate

Powder coated would be cheaper and better than that I'd think

Its at the powder coaters now mate they quoted £40 but because it has soldered joints they daren't put it in the oven at 180'

I have been quote £1200-1400 from the painter at work for a bare shell respray in and out. His work is superb though so I dont mind paying it.

That was for the Spider. Was going to start stripping it but Kate wants it on the road again this summer. Looks like it will have to wait for a bit.

Off topic, but regarding the tank do not get it powder coated if it's a GSi one. The plastic surge tank inside May just melt.

Had mine blasted for £10 and painted for £20.

Yeah it is mate, it's brand new so shouldn't need blasting. Going to treat myself to a compressor and do it myself I think:-)

Good to know, my coater didn't want to chance it, neither did I.

Saying that though my painter is next door, so it was no drama.

But then I wouldn't be able to convince myself I need a compressor to play with lol

First thing I asked lol, I learnt a lot doing the prep work myself but he also said I could help him and he would show me how to do a few things

Most rattle can paint isn't long lasting tho. If you wanna do a proper job then you want it to last.

This.

Plus every man needs a compressor and air tools in his life. Don't cheap out on it though, you want at least 100L imo.
