View Full Version : Any recent c20xe tuning options?
Been away from vauxhalls for a few years but have decided to restart my old nova track project. Idcalways planned to go down the carbs route, obvious things like ecu chip, updated manifold, exhaust , cams and flywheel, is there any new tuning options, I've heard there making rapid developments on small block 1.6 and 1.8s and was hoping there my be a few new ideas and methods floating around?
Budget in mind? What sort of power you looking for? Just cost v power 20xe will win. Just depends how much of a dedicated track car you build as there is the extra weight compared too a small block motor too take into account. You can get 20xe novas too handle though so wouldnt rule the engine out
As for 20xe options....im building a few screaming 20xes for lads on here circa 260+ bhp and in total building various heads/engines for 6/7lads on here presently.
Out of curiosity, the lads your building the high spec 20xes for, why have they opted for an xe over an let , surely it's a lot cheaper to tune a turbo lump considering there around 50bhp faster out of the box? Then theres the reliability of the engine to think about, by no means am I an expert but I remember researching this matter before and what I was told that a 300bhp let would see out 100k with care but a 300bhp xe only 10? Tbh the reason I'm going with the xe is that I already have one which I know is a strong lump which I've owned for maybe 6 years, but I have been weighing up my options and I'm still undecided what lump to go for in my track car, if there was no budget it would be alloy block xe running jenveys dry sump forged internals etc
How people drive, use of engine, I personally prefer a good n/a motor.
Both lads want too do track days, one wants too also go too lemans iirc
House1983 and 24sevenslacker iirc are there users if wanted too pm for the forged xes too ask. Ive built a fair few lets and most lads go back to xes for driveability. You have more weight over the nose, more heat, more sensors/parts too go wrong.
The 300bhp xes..like jre...now bust with police chasing him. Rally lads were buying too be top of the class but tbh a 260bhp motor can suffice in a decent car/driver.
Friend used too rally his mk2 ezzy with an xe with 228@wheels and drove much better/smoother and quicker than some of the bigger powered cars as you werent needing too rev the tits out of it coming out of bends too get going. He won one championship the one year and historics rallyx the next.
Inbox me a rough budget or power and I can give you specs/prices if wanted give you an idea of what looking for atleast. Can do same for smallblock 16xe/18s also. Had one lad with a nova and a mini looking for builds too.
