Thought I'd start one of these before I get too far into my nova to remember what I've done.
After previously owning 5 and being a PNG member back in 2003 and selling my last one in 2005, I've been away having kids and buying houses etc.
so about a month ago I bought this-

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/B1FECFA7-F188-4B4D-AE59-B7C524F62D68_zpsavvykld9.jpg
The drive where it sits it's also my work space so a full nut and bolt restoration is off the cards but as it's not my daily drive unlike my other novas I can go a bit further with it.
So at the minute I'm just gong around the car a corner at a time getting bits solid and under sealing, etc, then I plan to do the mechanical stuff, but I'll add more photos as I go along. I'm hoping to get a full respray also in a few months depending on how far I get. Here's how it's sat at the minute-

As you can see the inner arch was shot so I started/tried making and welding a new one, I've never welded before lol but I like to try-

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/D2466169-E2CE-41DE-AC04-1211C81A21C5_zpsupnylxud.jpg

These also arrived today ready for the next step -

I've also got a new gsi tank I'm waiting to get powder coated, a new tailgate and lots of new suspension parts seeing as how the previous owner welded some cut down springs to the shock top mounts for some reason.
i think that's about how far I'm at so far so I'll try and update as soon as I do anything of interest.

cheers scott

Welcome alone fellow Scott, nice project, I'll keep my eyes on it to see how you progress, silly question maybe, is it a real gsi?

Scott.

I remember slats nova he had a unit on the old shipyard. He had a blue one which he painted orange or gold or something? Was that the one?

Thats the car, but it was a red spin painted apache orange same as corsa b's and frontera sports.
See my link to it in my sig below, and how it finished before i sold it in 2011.

just had a good look through it's hard to believe it was the same car when you'd finished. Would love to do something similar with my brake lines.

No there was a small hole on the outer and one up inside the shock turret so I made the decision to cut a bit extra out to access it, it's not ever going to be concourse so I thought it'd be the best way to get it solid.

Since my last post I've mainly been collecting bits over the last few days I've taken the new gsi Tank got off nickj to the powder coaters, and also acquired a gsi tail gate, gsi brake servo, new springs, new shock top mounts and poly bushes for the front end. I'll try get some pics up in the week. Next step is to cut the rear panel out...which I've been putting off as it's not something I want to make a mess of lol

Scottcooper85
16-03-14, 03:49 PM
I started the **** end this morning here's a few pics-

I drilled all the spot welds out of the old rear panel first. Both sides like here then along the bottom and the few inside at each side then broke all the seams with a hammer and chisel.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/E8D5B44B-55AA-4F1A-BEB9-20D8386D2674_zpsrsvc2v9j.jpg

Then to make it easier I cut the middle and carefully removed both sides

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/538BD9AC-6FFE-4F58-BD80-4DAEABA7037A_zpsuqeirdq9.jpg

Heress a picture fully removed with the seams half cleaned back up

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/4DDBED31-02D3-4465-8C05-90903EA4214A_zpsvjy6hmfs.jpg

Then as it was nice I prepped and painted the new one ready to fit after I've under sealed etc. I just aerosoled it as I'm getting a full respray and it seams good enough for now.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/D20276F6-5F9E-4EDB-9F40-DEC08F3BE063_zpsafvil4pc.jpg

That's about as far as I got today and it will probably be next weekend before I get around to taking it any further. Does anyone know the trick to getting the new panel in, in one piece? I've offered it up and it looks awkward lol

Their getting better mate, I'm glad the rear panel only wants spot welding though lol was hoping mine would be done and mot'd for PVS but it's looking like I'll be using our lasses at this rate.

Will do mate but doubt I'll get it done and squeeze a respray in before then, if not I'll be taking the astra. Doubt I'll be camping though.

Few more pictures here, haven't had much time over the last couple of weeks but I've done a bit.

finally took the sheet off her ar$e and got around to putting the rear panel back in, also I welded a couple of small plates on the chassis rails underneath where the weather had got the better of it. Was a good chance to inspect right into the boot corners too which were both solid:thumb:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/DC33D12E-4CA2-4A79-B529-0E7192CCA4D5_zpspgyo2bb5.jpg

Also managed to blag some split seat brackets for free so I tacked them into place. Was a bit worried as it's still sporting a leaky fuel tank lol
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/4226A389-4AD1-4705-83F0-405DBF585541_zpstx1w5kyl.jpg

Also acquired some new wheels amongst other things, didn't think £200 with 4 brand new toyo proxes t1r's was a bad price.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/248141E2-799E-45EE-875A-071A5333D909_zpsfebxito4.jpg
Also got these too as it's currently sporting one standard shock and one budget uprated.

Hoping to acquire a compressor tomorrow so I can spray the fuel tank myself and stonechip under the rear
end. Then I can start putting a few bits back on and move to the next corner of the car. Just wish I had more time to tinker lol

Softstars should look great on a white mk2!! Result on the rear panel!!

Softstars should look great on a white mk2!! Result on the rear panel!!

Hoping so, I might do them silver again though as unsure on the colour of them. The rear panel was a nightmare I had to fold the seams right out at one side but in a way they'd go back lol

Scottcooper85
06-04-14, 02:12 PM
Finally got a compressor, not as big as I'd have liked but it's plenty good enough for undersealing and painting the odd panel. So I applied som gravitex to the underside rear end and spare wheel well. Only had a couple of spare hours so I decided to tidy up my rear silencer. I'll be painting the fuel tank next and then fitting them both back to the car.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/862260A1-37F4-4710-B069-ECD01BDA12B3_zpsaa5p8xgn.jpg
Attacked it with the wire wheel in the grinder...nearly lost my fingers a few times too lol
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/BBA7BA25-3098-4BBE-9AAE-5CEC054166C1_zps8fniumvl.jpg

Then em gave it a quick lick of heat proof metalic grey and polished my tip;)
hoping to get the rear beam powedercoated a similar grey.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/7A40A50F-B68B-4C3A-AD1D-4A3B145F78A0_zpsbtx0kvtc.jpg
^^^ the bubbles weren't mine...honest

Scottcooper85
11-04-14, 05:07 PM
Had the odd hour after work so removed the rest of the exhaust and did a bit more undersealing.
also etch primed, stone chipped (not around pipes and sender) and painted fuel tank.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/E8EC46E4-92BF-456E-B6BA-1B7530DE1595_zpsflbp6ry3.jpg

Then stone chipped and finally painted rear panel and inside edge of the boot.
Security device next to car lol
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/2B04B334-83C0-4A1A-A73E-AEE91C589B32_zpsq2dl3ooh.jpg
Couple of little runs but not a bad first attempt at spraying and I'm glad I've had a go :)

all being well tank, exhaust and back bumper on tomorrow then start on the passenger arches and take the dash out to get access to the battery seam and arch backs. Be glad when it's done and off to the body shop so I can start thinking about pulling the motor out.

Scottcooper85
13-04-14, 02:26 PM
Did a bit more today and yesterday to the back end. Just waiting on a fuel filler neck now and I can move it across the drive and start to inspect the other arches.
managed to get the new tank fitted after plenty of swearing, tight gaps and spilt petrol lol I was going to pay a garage to do it but thought as a was a plumber and their only pipes it was best to man up.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/2AB01DED-3005-4287-9984-9F4830D8ECE1_zpsqyjfoyra.jpg

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/FE8550E6-DD92-49AA-859C-294D593FF82E_zps5rifwbze.jpg

Then I did a small patch of welding next to the rear spring top mount and got the exhaust, spax shocks and springs and rear bumper put back on. I was kind of pleased the bumper fitted good as the rear panel was the first panel I've ever welded in.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/FC03CC84-506A-414E-993A-F50450310FE8_zpspnwa70v8.jpg

Also pleased at the new ride height with the 80mm back springs on.

Had an hour after work so I whipped dash out full of enthusiasm
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/C4C258E6-2734-4222-A623-1FC479B4DD13_zpsxv45oymv.jpg

Then saw that there was some more welding to be done the drivers side was expected as it's dripping water in through the battery tray seam but then I saw the passenger arch and spirits dropped slightly lol hoping access isn't going to be too much of an issue.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/0E0E8676-6CB8-4721-9409-B5E8F37A8343_zpshikbeanw.jpg

Should be able to sort it. I did think about re-shelling at one point but this shell does have it's redeeming factors. When I bought the car was the first I'd ever welded so it seemed difficult at first but I'm getting better and refuse to be beaten by a nova lol.
definatly not going to see any shows in it now, I've decided to take tax and insurance off it so I don't get tempted to rush it.

Scottcooper85
10-05-14, 06:35 PM
Okay been a few weeks since I've updated and still going at it also got it booked in for respray but soonest he could do was October. Seems ages away but it takes the rush off me and I really want it doing where it's going as his work is great.

So got the fuel filler painted up and put on.

Then I decided to tackle the n/s front arch and splash guard. I though it was just going to need a little plate here and there....wrong!!!
The chassis leg had been welded rubbish before, the inside of the shock turret wasn't there and it was all that weak it had started to split.
Here's some pics of how I tackled it.

Remember I had never welded 3 month ago...so don't laugh lol

Then after the drama of this I decided to do some more soul pleasing jobs so I painted the wheel arches behind the dash, refitted dash, carpets and interior and rebuilt front shocks.

welding is getting better! All it needs to do is be secure and if it looks a little poo then a grinder will always make it look nicer

Cant believe you've done all that work in only two months, its taken me two years to do less work than that on my novavan lol
Looks good so far though and your welding is getting better :thumb:

Thanks guys, it's nice to have words of encouragement. It's definatly solid it's like a tank lol
saving the new sills and the back arch that needs fitting for Martin at the body shop.

ive been doing the odd hour here and there and a few hours at a weekend, lost a day today because of the rain though.

Welding is hard if you don't have someone who does it show you it looks like you need a little lesson to point you in the direction and you will see how much easyer it is when you are setup properly

what are you welding with gas or gasless mig and you doing it outside is not the best situation ether as a gental brezze can cause problems even just a wind shield will improve the finish you get

saying that fare play for taking it on I have seen people abandon projects for less

Scottcooper85
10-05-14, 07:56 PM
I'm using gasless mig do to being outside like you say, it's not been too bad for wind down there to be honest. I did try using gas and found it to be slightly more sympathetic but the bottle didn't last long and I was going through a lot of tips. It was something else to worry about being set right being a beginner do I decided to stick without it.

i did think about reshelling at one point but at the end of the day it's only metal and paint , the only downside to sticking with this shell is the time it will take me to get there. Feels like I'm on the home leg now all floor pan, chassis legs, arches have been inspected and welded. Just can't wait to get to the engine bay and nicer bits to do lol

dgbnova#1
10-05-14, 08:21 PM
Tips are prob due to the setup again I use 1 tip a year if that and lay down 10 kilo of wire at least if not more

gas consumption is prob due to regulator open to much same again experience would always use gas version as your laying weld onto slag from the flux every time you stop which is often on thin steel I've been welding 22 years now on cars and anything steel still learning stuff now and I'm a joiner by trade so it's only a side line these days just welding a shed load of Novas lol

Scottcooper85
10-05-14, 08:29 PM
Lol same I'm plumbing and gas, thought about using plumbing flux to brush on the metal pre weld to help it along.

It's just a learning curve for me at the minute and enjoying other peoples advice and opinions, really enjoying learning a new skill.

The sides have been done but I'm stitching everything else I see lol

looking forwards to PVS as it's one thing reading build threads but can't wait to have a look at how people have done theirs up close...plus haven't been since 2004 lol

Had half hour finishing a bit of the tank pipe work this morning and finally got some fuel back in it. was good to hear it fire up, was so pleased I pulled it on the front and washed it and cut all the bits off the paint. Bet the neighbours thought u was a right tool washing a car with no wings, bumper, grill or lights.

Only paid £10 for the equal shaft which I was chuffed with, other bargain this weekend was a blasted rear disc converted beam with brand new discs, bearings, stub axles and bleed nipples for £50.
Need to fit the front panel and paint the engine bay next.

Not updated in a while, I had a few weeks off on the nova doing the kitchen to keep our lass in favour and spending time with the mini me's. I did however sneak 3 or 4 days in.

I managed to get the front panel sorted, I did buy a full one but as it was only bad at one end I decided to just replace an end section. It also made it a bit easier to line up right having a large section to work to.

Got it as close as possible with the welder and flappy disc and then gave it a light skim of filler.
Then I got the compressor out and applied a coat of gravitex to the front, back in the arches and previously repaired battery tray.

Then I bit the bullet and decided to buy a n/s light surround panel rather then patch the other up. Again I just decided to replace what I needed to so after a few measures I cut in the bottom left and top right corners and got that welded in too.

I noticed a few reasons for leaks. It was still running the twin cork gasket set up, it was missing 2 bolts and most bolts were quite bent.

While I had the sump off I replaced the sender seal too and put it all back together with high temprature flue sealant. Got the new filter on and manifold back on the front.

pictures don't really do it all justice. It's chrome powder and kandy red over a silver base coat, it sparkles like a mother chuffer when the sun hits it.
also got my front panel painted but only have a primered picture lol it's not the best but it will do until it goes for respray in 2 month. I really just wanted it white and protected from the elements.

re-lacquering to suit the colour scheme ;)

It'll do while it gets to the body shop in October, it looks worse then it is because I stone chipped it first.

Next I removed the tie bar mounts as I have new powder coated and poly bushed ones and snapped a bolt (see post in mechanical section)

Then I finished by undersealing the back and bottom of the crossmember and both front arches

It went in on a slight angle as the engine got in the way a but whilst drilling but it's tight and 100% better then no bolt.

Tie bars need coating but I plan to do that and the bottom arms when I get round to buying equal shafts, will also fit new bearings, hubs and ball joints at that point.

Also rubbed, filled and zinc primed one side inner wing tonight.

The he bolt or the whole car? lol

the bolt wasn't too bad to be honest, it took about an hour. It's worse when it's a steel bolt snapped into aluminium which I've done a few times before.

Just collected these from the polisher near our work, really happy with them. Anything shiny is fine by me though lol

also been and ordered a new radiator. So just hoses left to buy for the minute for the engine dress up.

Done a little bit more today:-

The old radiator looked a little worse for wear so a bought a new one from my local motor factors and got it fitted. Using standard hoses at the minute but after paint I'm going to fit a full set of roose during the winter.

I also fitted a 10" slim line fan using a pull through rad type fitting kit

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/C010B251-35FB-4254-939D-BB396D411B0E_zpssf0clkxa.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/C010B251-35FB-4254-939D-BB396D411B0E_zpssf0clkxa.jpg.html)

Then as I've been skimming imperfections on the inner wing and where I've Seam welded with filler I removed the washer bottle bracket and smoothed it.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/AB12F1D3-BC08-49D6-BFF4-097C0C3743BE_zpsptk3mtzo.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/AB12F1D3-BC08-49D6-BFF4-097C0C3743BE_zpsptk3mtzo.jpg.html)

You may have also noticed my full loom is wrapped in electrical tape too lol plan is to pull all that off and tidy it up with proper loom tape and hide it at a later point in the inner wings.

After I smoothed the old washer off I fitted this bag system as replacement.
Not planning on doing many runs in rubbish weather so should be adequate.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/D4BFE0AA-BB19-4A99-9226-E5D4F3D5EC48_zpsb2v567ii.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/D4BFE0AA-BB19-4A99-9226-E5D4F3D5EC48_zpsb2v567ii.jpg.html)

Also fitted a single wiper setup, which I'm still not sure wether I'll keep. Unsure on make but think it came off mark beesons old car and sweep seems to be acceptable.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/48C13847-1C8E-4871-8429-83105B8E2413_zpso5sgrm8f.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/48C13847-1C8E-4871-8429-83105B8E2413_zpso5sgrm8f.jpg.html)

Then I came to as far as I could go as waiting for fine top filler to set nice and hard over night ready for sanding. Hoping tomorrow isn't going to be as wet as forecast so I can try get the inner wings painted up white.

Little bit more done, the weather has held me back a bit this past week or so though. Also got a date to drop the car off at the body shop which is good (26th sept) he's changing both outer sills, new or patched passenger arch and full respray is what it's booked in for.

Last week I finished filling, seam welding and sealing the inner wings. Then got them in zinc primer and finally a blow over in glacier white.

It's not as warm as it could be so I've shut the bonnet and covered it back up to leave it a fair few days for the paint to go off as I'm expecting it will need some flatting and cutting back due to painting it outside.

Got around to putting most bits back in the engine bay yesterday. Still loads of the standard bits to clean and repaint but the mission for now is to get it to paint and then for mot and sort the rest of the cosmetic bits through winter.

Not decided on air filter location yet so bought a cheap one and stuck it there as i didn't like it ran down between strut and cambelt cover.
Plan is for webers or bike carbs hopefully.

Got some fluids back in the motor once all the plumbing was in and a pipe ran from back of head and T'd in to top radiator return as it was blanked previously.
Then after chasing a spark problem back to the coil earth I fired it up

Let it run for a bit to test the fan which never came on as it was knackered lol so ordered a new one.
Then turn it off and tried to restart it and it wouldn't go. The fuel pump wasn't running this time though so I've ordered a new relay and going to go from there when it arrives.

Good looking bay, filter looks awkward there, but see how it run.

Are you planning on flatting off the paint to reveal the lettering on the plug cover, will look epic then.

I might flat it off going to see how it looks when it's all done.

Its ta just there temperary as I didn't want the paint and powder coat rubbing with a silicone hose as it will be exposed when I get carbs on.

It it was like hitting a brick wall, I came round the corner, it was icy and I was doing about 50mph. It took them double the distance I had to stop the police t5 when the investigation team got there, I was busy having the window removed from my head lol

Not much to report but a few more pics so I'll put them up save doing loads at once in a couple of weeks.

Started to see how well the front end panels lined up as I bought 2 aftermarket wings. The drivers one had ridiculous gaps so I binned it. I then mounted the passenger one and it fitted really nice and for the £23 I paid for the pair I was still happy lol

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/738AA2E7-3F17-431C-A1C6-8004F073244D_zpssuyjwchy.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/738AA2E7-3F17-431C-A1C6-8004F073244D_zpssuyjwchy.jpg.html)

My gm drivers wing I have had a bit of surface rust at the bottom and filler round the indicator hole. I decided to save it rather then buy another as it was solid.
Got all necessary bits back to bare metal and rust proofed with vatcan.

Then a very light skim of filler, zinc primer and mounted for fit.

Then yesterday I met Aamir in Bradford and bought some bits and bobs. Also had a good chat and got some ideas for mods and also some ideas on things to do to get my damn engine started lol

Sure people will recognise these

Also got a few other bits, managed to get the fuel rail and cable bracket swapped yesterday. Also re-earthed all the wires in the engine bay and noticed I was running a 3 bar reg with cream injectors, it's 2.5 as it should be now :)

Done a little more today. Main thing is fit my aero catches, I was in 2 minds if I should fit them but I want it to have a subtle motorsport look and I've seen 2 nova bonnet catches fail and result in it slapping the windscreen. So I went ahead with it.

I started by fitting the pins

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/1E76F6B6-74C2-4446-92BB-2A90CE7CC15C_zps3gelkug8.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/1E76F6B6-74C2-4446-92BB-2A90CE7CC15C_zps3gelkug8.jpg.html)

Then marked the pin centre and piloted it
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/81B37EAD-A5DD-4222-8B89-4B3AB287ACE1_zpspm1zurfv.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/81B37EAD-A5DD-4222-8B89-4B3AB287ACE1_zpspm1zurfv.jpg.html)

Then masked up and marked out

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/D29D113A-5F64-428C-ABD0-681ADDB1A923_zpsmkyfysp8.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/D29D113A-5F64-428C-ABD0-681ADDB1A923_zpsmkyfysp8.jpg.html)

Cut them out and made access underneath to get to the front 2 bolts

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%204/419CAF04-64F3-45B7-9474-C59C1A230655_zpsgnh69gt9.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%204/419CAF04-64F3-45B7-9474-C59C1A230655_zpsgnh69gt9.jpg.html)

Tidied them up a bit and etched primed them

After a bit of messing and lining up and also refitting front bumper and trial fitting grille

N/s one looks a bit rough as primer isn't covered by the catch, not too bothered as it will be getting rubbed back down in the body shop

Still got a bit more lining up to do on front bumper but might leave it while after paint. Also fitted a few more polished and red bits to the engine bay.
Grille to remove next week so I can make some sort of loom for the fan.

Not much happening here. Taking it to the body shop in 12 days so just sorting last little bits and wiring niggles.
Need to make a circuit to run the fan off a switch as the original wiring has been altered and I'm not sure what they've done lol
Sort new lock set, put rest of interior in and bits like that.

Also bought these as I want to steer away from the full gsi kit route a little and my drivers seat has a little bolster wear. Going to sell the gsi fronts and try get the rear bench trimmed to match these.
The child didn't come with them that's part of a previous project lol

In 2 minds wether to strengthen them or not? Also got a pair of hubs which I've stripped down and going to get powdercoated before putting in new bearings and lmf drive flanges.

Also my old dear asked if there was anything I wanted for xmas (even though I'm 29 with 2 kids lol) so she's agreed to buy a reg for the nova so I got - "K2 NVA" not a big fan of private plates but wanted it to have an identity haha.[/COLOR]

Been on to the bodyshop again and we've set a hopefully completion date for the 12th dec ( only 10wks after the original date lol) works out okay for me though as I get free storage for a bit and I break up from work for a 3 week xmas break the same date. So in the mean time I've been collecting parts and getting them ready to fit. Firstly as above I bought new lower arms, ball joints and polysport bushes Then got the arms powder coated and put the bushes in and painted the ball joints in black hammerite. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%205/5F49F695-B801-485D-8CBD-BB30EB6CDDA3_zps058mdlkq.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%205/5F49F695-B801-485D-8CBD-BB30EB6CDDA3_zps058mdlkq.jpg.html) Also got my knuckles coated the same colour and new bearings and hubs pressed in. I'm going to run these until next winter and then swap for some machined big bearing type ones http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%205/6B63A23E-DC21-4A16-BDA2-B474C9A7F3D1_zpsmomir6qq.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%205/6B63A23E-DC21-4A16-BDA2-B474C9A7F3D1_zpsmomir6qq.jpg.html) Also got some rose jointed TRE's off southie which I plan to run upside down to straighten out the steering arms a bit. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%205/DD7BFFF9-14C9-4D9A-88FA-7E15DCE3DB1B_zpspfnw5w1z.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%205/DD7BFFF9-14C9-4D9A-88FA-7E15DCE3DB1B_zpspfnw5w1z.jpg.html) Red roses (in need of a good clean and de grease) http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/nova%205/93EDB9D1-F77B-43DD-94E8-E04D7F37F903_zpsnj8ylcud.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/nova%205/93EDB9D1-F77B-43DD-94E8-E04D7F37F903_zpsnj8ylcud.jpg.html) New rear brace which I sent to get polished and all the scratches taken out. Just been to drop my carbs off at bogg brothers and to arrange getting a manifold made. They answered a lot of questions about waterways and stuff and are putting a mounting point on for the stock alternator bracket. They also said it should only take 2 weeks max which is a bonus. Their supplying throttle and choke cables too and I received a mk2 cav dizzy set up yesterday so just need the car back now lol

Still no car, but I've been buying and preparing more bits ready for when it comes back and glad it wasn't here over xmas anyway as I go to spend my full 3 weeks off with the kids.

First thing is a nodiz pro ignition - 3d mappable, hard and soft Rev limit, built in coil drivers (so no need for edis), fully supports Vauxhall trigger wheels so it can be plugged straight into standard crank sensor, etc, etc

I've been starting to ready the car for mot this week and changing the running gear, which went smoothly apart from a caliper I couldn't get off which led to me loosing my patience and cutting the carrier in half with the grinder lol

Jacked up and wheel off ready for action

Had another hour or so this morning at it, going away tomorrow for a few days so thought I'd keep up to date with the last few photos I've taken.

firstly waxoil - I brushed it all around my door bottoms inside and poured it into the rear quarters and sills prior to the panels going on. I'm going to blast the chassis full at some point too.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/final%20bits%20for%20mot/B758E88E-B526-4D67-85A1-C0868387DBAA_zpscyd5oxjt.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/final%20bits%20for%20mot/B758E88E-B526-4D67-85A1-C0868387DBAA_zpscyd5oxjt.jpg.html)

Someone has previously broke the quarter vent clips so a masked them into position and went around them with sealant from behind.

i also went over it all with poorboys spray and gloss QD too prior to wrapping it up as all the oily finger marks and dust on the glass was doing my head in lol.

when I get back the plan is to refit and bleed the drivers caliper and sort the drive shaft seal while I'm under there. Refit and clean the full interior and then see about getting an mot on it and building up some trust in the motor before the shows start. I have a week off at Easter so if it's mot'd I might fit the carbs, ignition, catch tank, manifold and system but that can all wait if needs be.

I've been away for the week with the missus and kids for my 30th at centre parcs, about an hour before leaving I noticed a pool of brake fluid around my back wheel so I clamped the flexi and hosed the fluid off to keep it as good as possible until I got home.
landed back yesterday and whipped the wheel off last night to be greeted to a blown wheel cylinder and some very heavily soiled shoes.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/final%20bits%20for%20mot/2495244A-1AA7-42EB-918F-C8A1FC4A5ADB_zpst8fkqbrj.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/final%20bits%20for%20mot/2495244A-1AA7-42EB-918F-C8A1FC4A5ADB_zpst8fkqbrj.jpg.html)

i got it all stripped down ,cleaned up and refitted but broke the brake pipe taking it off so after a few hours of struggling and running about for parts I ended up with a copper brake pipe and a new flexi.

Then I fixed the leak I was having from the diff where the o/s drive shaft goes in and put the caliper back together with new ferrodo racing pads like the other side. I then got it all bolted back up onto the hub.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/final%20bits%20for%20mot/3D135C18-4509-4C5B-A337-FDCEB66DCF53_zpsyfgiropu.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/final%20bits%20for%20mot/3D135C18-4509-4C5B-A337-FDCEB66DCF53_zpsyfgiropu.jpg.html)

after this I bled all the brakes using a gunson ezi-bleed, topped up the gear box oil and checked all tyre pressures.

Also got a shot of my nice straight steering arms with the car sat on the floor.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/final%20bits%20for%20mot/6B142AAA-A166-4D37-979F-E9D21757BE04_zpskjryjaf4.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/final%20bits%20for%20mot/6B142AAA-A166-4D37-979F-E9D21757BE04_zpskjryjaf4.jpg.html)

Lastly today a stuck a gsi badge I had in the shed to the grill, then fitted the head lights with new indicators and all new bulbs and refitted the grill. I was having problems with the end clips before but managed to cure that by using packers to push the clips apart.

GOkay update time....

spent most of the week polishing cleaning and fitting little bits for the mot

i started by refitting the seats and interior parts and hoovering it all out and cleaning the glass, then I changed the shoes in the other drum. Yesterday I just needed to nip up the hand brake cable a little, but then the side repeater wouldn't work so I chased that back to a broken wire which got changed and as I have spare time I fitted my momo and snap off boss.
lastly I took it for a run and wasn't happy with the brake pedal I had so I brought it back and bled the brakes and got a nice stiff pedal. Then I went to restart it at 5pm before wrapping it up and....it wouldn't start lol

so after about 5 minutes of staring at it I decided i wasn't willing to spend all night chasing electrical demons and cancelled the mot.

Here's what happened between 6:30 and 9:15 last night

Started to pull the injection off

Ran the original crank sensor wire, 3 coil pack wires, coolant temp wire and a feed to the +ve fan into the scuttle area where I joined it to the nodiz ecu loom. Then it all got taped up with loom tape, I'll be removing it at a later point and heat wrapping and hiding it all.

Once in the cabin I ran an earth and ignition feed to it and wired the Rev counter and coolant gauge up

Next I connected the servo up and started changing out the hoses to red roose ones

also connected the choke up cut it to length and mounted the pull switch on the dash for it

Last thing I did was connect the large inlet water pipe up using a silicone 90' bend and 22mm to 28mm plumbing fittings I had on the van.

tomorrow I'm going to wire the fan and fuel pump relays up, fit the fuel pump and new bracket and hopefully give it a run. After it ran in going to change the rocker cover to a modified one and fit the Bailey catch tank.

Ignition only ECU looks decent, is this to be used with a bespoke map or are off the shelf ones available?

They pre map it to your spec when you Order one mate and then you get the software and a dongle to adjust the map yourself or at a rolling road. The company that made the carb manifold are dealing in them now so they will set the lot up on their rollers

Looks good :)

Its tested too lol

theres lights on the ecu to tell me if it's live and wether it's getting signal back from the crank sensor. I turned it over with the pump off and it all lit up. Just coilpack to test if it doesn't fire.

Been to the coast today with the kids, but got a bit done yesterday which more or less got it ready for mot Saturday. The only issue I'm having at the minute is slight over revving on the throttle but I'm not sure if this is down to the throttle cable length so im going to address that before I take it to bogg's so Dave can have it on the rollers.

Started with the fuel pump first here's the components.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/carb%20conversion/C06C35CB-2957-4F96-8AA3-9688162F0632_zpsg1dj26nx.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/carb%20conversion/C06C35CB-2957-4F96-8AA3-9688162F0632_zpsg1dj26nx.jpg.html)

wired it up temp to make sure it ran. It did run after a timing issue which lead to lots of checking and re-wiring. Turns out you have to link the ecu to a laptop and change the trigger setting from ford to 62-2...who'd have thought lol

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/carb%20conversion/379D8E7C-5CAE-4865-B70A-AD1F77EAF8D8_zps5kiyz9ov.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/carb%20conversion/379D8E7C-5CAE-4865-B70A-AD1F77EAF8D8_zps5kiyz9ov.jpg.html)

need to upgrade the fuel line at some point so when I do the rear beam I'll run a 10mm line through all the way and remove the return right back which is just capped off near the carbs for now.

next I wired in 2 relays one for the fuel pump and one for my fan circuit. The pump will be either running a oil pressure cut off or a spark loss kill soon

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e181/scottcooper85/carb%20conversion/12A1AD41-6069-4FE2-8B39-7F2BE3E9B722_zpsohgxv6ez.jpg (http://s39.photobucket.com/user/scottcooper85/media/carb%20conversion/12A1AD41-6069-4FE2-8B39-7F2BE3E9B722_zpsohgxv6ez.jpg.html)

Then after giving it a run I bolted up the fuel pump, refitted my dash parts and then went to work fitting my new rocker cover and catch tank ( paint in the bay is a bit rough still as its getting done later this year or next)

I used some high temp bbq type paint, the vht stuff has to go on an ultra brite metal surface and this stuff is good over the odd bit of rust and sticks a bit better.

i might stick with the Ashley for now to be honest, it sits about where the stock one did but the new system is a jp exhausts one and it sits really snug under the car so that's given me a lot more ground clearance and it doesn't knock the rear beam anymore lol

No there's a lot of play before it hits the pressure plate so having to have it on full adjustment at the minute to get it to bite. I don't want to go any further with it at the minute though until I get a billet flywheel sorted.
