Pepe is NOT a myth, far from it, Grom (who uses RB) owns it, and he has been playing around with novas literally since they first came out (he's an old pensioner compared to most of the people on here, LOL)
It WAS a touring car spec engine, but as far as im aware he has gone past that now, has unlike touring cars, he hasnt got any rules, so he has started where they left off and kept going.

Its a valver on throttle bodies, but so much more than that, the attention to detail and level of spec are ridiculous, last estimate i heard was that the parts bill alone would run to 60K if you paid for all the bits (which he hasnt, its been built on a lot of favours and swaps as far as im aware)

He's basically started at the front bumper, and made his way to the back bumper, and every single component he has met on the way has been scrutinised and upgraded with lighter/stronger or whatever parts.

Grom's hobby seems to be very much building it not driving it though, and its rarely been out of the workshop as far as im aware and is nearly always in pieces so he can change some minor detail again.

Its one of the most talked about novas on the planet, but ironically never by Grom, he just tinkers away with it in his workshop and doesnt really say anything to anyone about it, LOL

ROFLMFMO yep dead shit paintwork there you narrow minded person. I think you will find the paintwork is to the highest quality and possibly it has just been ruined in your eyes as its different from the car you drive  Rick

No abuse on here Rick - this isnt Darkcruisers :!:

he probably means that the content of the paint is crap, ie looks like some punk kids got at it and graffitied over it lol

the quality does look good, just a naff style lol

Airbrushing needs to be seen up close and personal to appreciate it really.
The web doesnt do it any favours.

I just don't see the point.... Spend an absolute fcuk load on money on a car you bearly drive....
You will never see me drive a mint shelled car, I simply enjoy driving and yes I do spend a good amount on my cars, rally car as an example but at least it gets driven....

Agree on the cost being a bit high for a car, but its not for a car its for a hobby, id sooner spend 60K on building a nova over 4 years than on 3 * 100 quid a night on booze a week for 4 years.

Its without a doubt the finest put together nova ever made, sure there are cars that are quicker up the quarter, like boostbeast, but they dont have the build quality that this car does.

http://miniowners.com/vaux/pepe/pepeshaft.jpg

If you want to see another driveshaft of this quality you are going to need to be looking at some pretty expensive form of motorsport.
hollow tubing custom made from the finest grade of aircraft spec steel available (Murasian Steel sp?)

You couldnt get any further up anyones ass......

I love the airbrushing-including the horse on the bonnet.

Its fucking nuts and rather cool.
Little bit anal tho
Its a mad car- but id rather buy something better for that cash......and will be...

Anyway- id prefer ricks- and that cost 1/3 of what that cost- and is actually used...

Im sorry to dissapoint you freak but any feelings of desire i have are purely for the nova not its owner.

didn't the touring cars have a reversed head?

Jules
10-09-03, 10:17 PM
Yep so the air intake was at the front of the engine bay and not behind the head in order to feed cool air straight into the TB's.

CP

I think Swindon Developments tried it both ways ( if you pardon the expression  ) If I remember right from what I read in TV months back they spent a shedload of time and money developing a head to breathe from the front and only found any useful gains over 80mph after all the effort.

I think I would be prepared to die for that engine - not sure about the artwork but thats the real deal

what sort of power is the car outputting? are we talking over 300bhp? that's what touring cars are isn't it???

Ben
12-09-03, 03:36 PM
Not wanting to put the car down as anyone can see a lot of time and effort has gone into it

BUT

The Orange and Blue Nova's on the Total Vaux stand for Billing put it to shame, yes his engine is a much higher spec but as Chip said its still not the quickest.

I wish somebody could build a English car to the same sort of standard the European ones are. They leave us way behind.

Aamir
12-09-03, 04:30 PM
Well it's very different to the usual Novas,
to be honest it maybe quality in certain areas, but not all.

Firstly his front bumper looks like it's not been lined up properly
(hangs down too low) in one of the pics posted.

His front wings have been cut to allow the mega drop,
but it hasn't been done symetrically (sorry, i have an eye for these things).

I ain't dissin' the guy, I give him credit for trying something different,
it's good, but it certainly ain't perfect, perfection is "Ian Holmes GTE".

Soz Chip !

Chip_RB

You boys have missed the point TOTALLY if you are judging it on looks or how well the panels fit etc.

The Orange and Blue Nova's on the Total Vaux stand for Billing put it to shame

In what possible way is that true?

And as far as not being the quickest, where it counts to grom (round a track) i personally believe this will be the quickest nova on the planet as far as im aware so far, it would certainly be quicker than the boost-beast turbo etc.

Chip

Ben

It seems like people are always ripping into others cars, but thats not the case as people who build large money cars are intrested in critiscm as long as its not offensive.

I would not be bothered what people think it looks like as long as they were honest.

Chip_RB
12-09-03, 04:46 PM
When judging this car IGNORE TOTALLY the looks of it.

The colour, the paint etc are all easily changed in a weekend, its whats underneath that paint that which puts this nova on a totally different level.

The paint etc are entirely personal to Grom and of no interest to the rest of us, if i had it off him i would just paint it plain white or something and leave it at that, but thats easy to do, taking any other nova to this level in terms of the mechanicals however is not.

lol break it down, - Big engine, good running gear and a paint job..It's just the way you go on about the time, the money, every last nut and bolt, yes it's nice but there is a limit.

novasr69
12-09-03, 04:52 PM
yes theres a limit, but as chip has stated some of the car was done in favours etc,

Ben

Fair point chip.

When will it ever be on a track to show what it can do?

im sure a friend of groms posted on rb a little while ago sayin it starts/runs but wiv grom theres never a definate answer lol

LOL!

Oh well, in that case a formula one car is just an engine a body and some wheels.

If you want to look at it from that sort of perspective every nova on this site is the same.

Some people on here however have the technical knowledge required to appreciate stuff like the driveshafts on it or the exhuast manifold or the plenum or just about every other bit of the car to realise why it is so completely different from being "just another valver"

The difference between a pukka track monster and just another modifed road car is down to the attention to detail and the small bits of spec, not the size of the wheels or the size of the engine etc.

If you dont have the level of knowledge required to appreciate this car on a level other than what colour it is etc, then thats fine, but its a bit pointless going on about it being the same as all the others just cause you cant appreciate why it isnt, just leave it to people who do have the knowledge to decide for themselves instead.

Yes it runs, but isnt driveable yet because it hasnt been mapped, when you are playing with 10,000 odd rpm you cant take any chance obviously and things just take as long as they take, it would be pointless to try and rush it.

You can't slag the guy off for spending years building the car when most of you wouldn't even lift a spanner to fix your own. There is more to cars than just driving them, why do people spend loads of time restoring/doing up old cars? Not just for the final result but 'cos they like working on cars. Why is that so hard to understand.

Chip

What is the actuall spec of this engine? Cams/rods/crank and pistons anyone?

Obviously it has the dry sump fitted - usefully at sustained >8500rpm...are those roller TBs and hence the further 4 injectors? What about the ECU? Is Grom using MBE equipment or something else??

Its an interesting looking engine, just a shame it'll only last as long as a touring spec lump..

Breeny
14-09-03, 09:25 PM
I tink there throttle "barrels" not bodies... but dont quote me on that, I just read it somewhere lol

Ben
14-09-03, 11:23 PM
I belive that the spec is only known by Grom and no one else actually knows just speculate.

Chip_RB
15-09-03, 11:08 AM
As far as i know grom hasnt ever released exact specs for the engine.

The lifespan of it is going to be short though i should think, although if used at lower rpm and partial throttle openings on the road it would obviously last signifcantly longer than balls out on the track, so it dpends on what useage it gets how many miles it will actually go before it needs a quick freshen up again.

Chip_RB

wisewood
15-09-03, 02:15 PM
Far too many too quick to judge on here at the moment, chip isnt up groms arse - merely appreciating the work he has put into his car. I dont know chip - i dont know grom and i dont use RB - think i may have posted on there once a twice a while ago but thats it...

At the end of the day RB and NL are both sites dedicated to the same subject matter - but we go about it in slightly different ways. Why there always has to be this animosity towards each other is beyond me!

People on this site always loved Ian's old car - and yet on RB people slagged it off left, right & centre - on here it's the same with pepe.

Pepe may not be to everyone's tastes but then again neither was Ian's old one, Rick Drapers (when its done) or anyone else's for that matter.

CP's car is a good example - the paintwork is a bit track related for many peoples tastes but almost everyone respects the car for what it is - a damn good example of what can be done to the engine - and without spending TOOO much money on it. Why don't we look at pepe in the same way? Seems to me it's because it's a car owned by someone who never uses this site and favours RB instead.

It's pathetic!
You call yourself nova lovers?

Pepe's styling is not to my taste - but just on the bits you can see that are done to it i have some respect for the work put into it. If the engine is spec'd as chip says - fair play to grom, he's doing a very good job of it.
