Suzuki swift gti engine conversion

Looking for some opinions on what people think of converting my nova to run a swift gti engine, I have looked into it and it's a fairly easy conversion, just what are the engines like? Reliable?

Lad I used to hang round with had one it was a rapid little thing so don't see it any worse in a nova depends what power they are compared to the bolt in 1.6 16v vauxhall motor

Japanese built, so one would expect reliability, However if you are not competing or attempting to stay in a low tax bracket then not really worth the effort in my opinion.

My old man rallies this Suzuki Swift GTI (well it's me using it in this pic as I borrowed it for an event)

Good engines as standard, just held back massively by the standard air box (think try to suck up a marble through a straw!). A K&N and a decent manifold freed it up massively. The car is highly modified now, running throttle bodies, decent cams, knife edged crank, JE pistons and Rods, decent amount of headwork and has been bored out to just under 1400 (they are 1296cc as standard). Gripper LSD and a Suzuki Sport 5 speed dog 'box. It is running around 165bhp and is very torquey and revs safely to 8500rpm. It was up to just under 180bhp on the rollers but the torque dropped off so dropped the BHP and upped the torque.

It is a bloody rapid machine, it beats GPA Subaru's and 2.0xe Escorts quite easily. I used it on a rally in June last year, won the 1400 class (against 2 Nissan Micra Kit cars, and a few 14xe Nova's & Corsa's) and finished 12th overall, only beaten a High spec 1600 Astra, a couple of 2.5ltr Escorts and half a dozen 4wd's including 3 World Rally Cars.

if / when I decide to reshell my Nova rally car then I will definitely consider putting a Swift engine in it. They used to be a popular conversion in rallying. Use a Vauxhall 'box though as standard Swift GTI boxes **** themselves easily!

Didn't think the c16xe's where very strong engines without spending a fortune on them

I think the best thing for you to do before choosing an engine is decide what you want it to do. Sounds to me like you want a strong engine, which maybe indicates that you want to rev it, in which case it all comes down to budget.

Going by what I have herd the swift engine is the one! Strong, loves to revv, and cheep!

My old nova ended up swift powered and was very competetive, it may still be going, last i heard it was going to ireland.
