I have been in the car trade for a good few years , and the same thought has crossed my mind a good few times .
Good luck with your venture . John

I have freinds who did the same in Edinburgh, I think it was called edinburghretrocars. It did well initially but after a few years they changed the name as the name scared customers with 1990 onwards cars away.

As they have the reputation for classics, they still get a lot of thier trade from this but tyres/exhausts etc from modern cars are very lucrative too for this particular garage.

Put adds on eBay for all cars your looking to work on breaking parts etc and add all your details to the listings as most people search distance nearest first well I do this is a good way to get ure name out there and u don't even need the cars worth a go

Why dont you look into buying his business off him? If he has the customers and decent equipment then you would be off to a good headstart. Could even keep the staff if there are any.

Well that makes the most sense exactly what I was about to say location and customers already

Other thing to think is he selling because he's had enough or does it not work or viable and if he sells to someone else there competition for your new venture
you worked there so must know what the score is was if he's got a nice house car and lives it up then it's prob a decent place
if he's in a static round the back prob not that good a prospect unless hes sitting on it

Moved this to gen chat as the trader section is for established tradesmen (oo-er lol). If you do go ahead with this and want to advertise on the site, contact us about a site sponsor account.

That aside, talk to your old boss or try to find out why he's packing it in first.

Yeah starting a fresh :) Unit is too big for me but equipment could be a possibilty...just rushing things n cutting corners because he didnt charge enough for the job as per always
