I'm sure I've read before that 1.0 shells are no good to use for 2.0 conversions because they have different engine mount locations, is this true?

thanks

Yeah they have different mounting positions, but nothing a grinder n welder could sort out i guess!

omm no thats shite

ive just fitted a 1.4 to my 1.0 shell and the mounts are identical

fitting valver to a 1.0 shell is the same as fitting it to any other nova shell except the diesel ones which use totally different mounts

i think the engine bays are made of thinner gauge steel than a GTE or GSi so could be more prone to suffering from the weight/stresses a big engine would add.

1.0 - 1.4 (bar the SRi) all have the thinner shells and plenty have been converted to 2litre/turbo spec

the best option would prolly be a SRi as the have GSi spec shells BUT are about 5 insurance groups lower :)

i used a 1L shell to run a valver pluis it was running on rosejointed suspension.
Didn't shake it to bits and now the car is a rally car.
No problems with these shells.

Cheers guys,

Can now broaden the search to cheap 1.0 shells! but why are there soo many people around who want top money for old rust?

If you are really serious about getting a mint shell and are willing to travel i can get you a 100% mint shell in Ireland. Have discussed this in the past on the site. completely rust free examples are pretty common over here.
As i said if you are serious get in contact or maybe you dont want to go to so much effort.
