ive recently done some work on my car, I got the timing a tooth out it was starting but running rough and dying so ive re done it. put everything back and the started sounded like it was dead.

I changed the starter but the new one sounded dead also so I tried a live from the battery on it just to see if it turns the car over but it didn't just kept ticking but then I noticed aload of smoke coming from my arches!

ive got goodridge brake lines and the plastic is melted! wtf happened??? what could cause this??

any help would be great as im not goog with electrics and im guessing something is shorting out??

You would prob get away with cleaning them but replace them and the bolts/washers if there rusty
on the later models vauxhall ran an addition of earth to the top bolt on the starter that holds it to the block then through the fire wall to the battery I do this as standard to all my cars

would this also stop the car starting?

like the idea of the starter/block earth. hoping it will fire up since its not ran properly yet, cant wait to hear it. only a 1.3 sr engine but re built it. thanks guys

Yes will stop it from running and starting
this went on my van only few weeks ago but it's common
put some grease on the parts to keep some of the water out
