Hi all,

So I'm considering parting with my current nova. I've recently come across another motor I'd like to look at buying but only have room in the garage for one so ideally I'd need to sell this first before going any further. It is rather reluctant if I'm honest and Ill no doubt live to regret it as I've never owned a nova this epic from a condition point of view and as you all know I've owned many some of which have been rather nice!

History.

I acquired this one back in 2011 from Brian Hartley who had bought it from the original owner a few years prior. So the story goes Tipton vauxhall west mids sold it to a guy who used it very little and later became unable to drive. He mothballed the car in his garage and it saw no use for years until his son finally persuaded him to recomission and part with it in 2009. Brian added a few small parts and used it in good weather only for a few years before offering it to myself. I bought it after being blown away by its fantastic condition when I first saw it at billing 2009.

Basics.

Genuine 1986 carmine mk1 1.0 with only 15,000 miles! Hpi clear, mot'd until July however currently sorned. Plenty of history/bills and so forth, Immaculate epic condition throughout.

Engine/Mechanical

Stock 1.0 push rod carb engine. Runs fantastic and has always been completely reliable whenever I've used it. It had the timing setup, New plugs, oil/filter, antifreeze and various other service parts since I've owned it as well as a sportex back box and bailey header tank. My mechanical guys were in awe of its condition when they first saw it. Brake pipes and much other the underside is in stunning order even pdi stamps were visible in places! Various engine bay livery painted either carmine red or grey with matt effect clear.

Suspension.

Gaz custom short bodied coil over kit with 300lb springs front and rear which has only seen 500 miles use and in as new condition. This kit allows you to run very low comfortably giving a nice ride without running on the bump stops or having a harsh ride like some kits. Lowered approx 70mm front and 90mm rear.

Compbrake fully adjustable concentric roller bearing top mount kit again seen very limited miles and in great condition.

Brakes.

Wilwood midilite calipers with two piece 310mm rotors and alloy bells, Goodridge flexi hoses and various compound pads mainly based around track use. This kit is truly epic I've never had brakes this good on a nova and I have used other four pot kits. Mark Beeson had the bells/brackets machined in order to fit behind speedline allesios to eliminate use of spacers which obviously then cause wheel and arch issues. It also comes with a different set of spacers to suit using a slightly smaller disc setup. A cracking piece of kit with a huge price tag new!

larger nova gsi servo refurbished in grey with matt effect clear

Refurbished rear brakes, New drums, cylinders, bearings etc. Drums again finished in grey with matt effect clear.

Wheels/tyres.

Rare Raceline rl7 16 * 6.5J et 49 with Toyo t1r 195/40 tyres.
Wheels were acid dipped and refurbished in grey with matt effect clear and finished with new decals. Tyres have only covered 500 miles so again mint condition.
Bmw anodised black full wheel bolt set including locking set.

Body.

Nigh on completely original when I bought it. All original gm panels throughout and Without doubt Never accident damaged or jigged. The only paint work the car had seen was a small cosmetic repair on the tailgate under the rear window. Any dents were removed via paintless dent removal and their was also hardly any corrosion to deal with. Only the smallest area at the bottom of the rear arch needed attending too. So we replaced both rear arches removing minimal metal work and single skinned/folded the rear arches for max clearance. The front arches were also folded for max clearance as I intended to run low. The tailgate was repaired properly and the front valance bare metalled to remove all chips as some were quite large. An over paintable stone guard has been applied to the full sill and arch lip areas to keep these areas sound for years to come. It was a shame in a way to paint it as many wouldn't have however one thing led to another and I went overboard as usual! All exterior plastics ( Bumpers, mirrors, valance trim and badge) were also smoothed and painted in grey with a matt effect clear to match the wheels and engine bay livery. All inner arches are also painted and look fantastic. The panels that haven't seen paint were detailed via flat and polishing so the finish matches what I have painted. Due to how original the car is and the work that has been carried out it is completely immaculate and perfectly straight with no corrosion or alignment issues whatsoever. As far as I'm aware it's led a very pampered life spending most of its life it garages and only seen dry weather use for the past five years at least always being sorned over winter.

Engine bay.

Fully degreased down to every pipe and wire then hand cut, polished and waxed from top to bottom. Completely mint! It looks that good most thought I'd freshly painted it for last years billing bash!

Body extras.

Modified gm bonnet with nls rare courtenay carbon vents

Freshly modified nova shorty mirrors

Opel grill badge in black with matt effect clear.

All exterior plastics smoothed and painted in grey matt throughout.

Rear inner arches modified properly for plenty of coil over clearance.

D20TBO private registration.

Euro rear fog cluster.

Security.

cat 1 alarm/immobiliser

Please read my wip thread page 198 onwards to see everything that has happened with the car under my ownership.

Price/location.

I'm in Yorkshire and looking for 5k as the car stands/spec'd and described above would however consider 4k if I was to keep the wilwood brakes and private reg plate. I see the car being worth around 3k in stock form with this mileage/condition then theirs wheels and suspension amongst other parts which would sell individually for approx 1k which is were I get my figures from. Ive spent around 100 hours labour on the shell and parts to bring it to this condition but even without taking this into consideration I will still be losing on the above prices! This is one of the best examples of a nova you will find and is a perfect just to use as it is or add another motor be it small block on carbs or a big block I think it will suit either perfectly. Please don't ask for photos of usual suspect Areas as I assure you their in fantastic condition. Even If you plan to come from Ireland I assure you this won't be a wasted journey and you would take it home. I've travelled up and down the country viewing various cars over the years so know how disappointing it can be when cars are not how they are described however with this motor that's not the case.

Should the car sell I will also have the following below for sale. But please this is strictly only if the car goes first! If the car doesn't sell I will continue and finish the build. I've paid good money for top quality parts to achieve a top class safe build. Here's a brief rundown....

- Re-built C20let by SBS.
- New bearings throughout
- Machined pistons
- Arp rod bolts
- Uprated Head gasket
- Bill Blydenstein Gas Flowed Coscast head
- Xe inlet cam with vernier pulleys.
- Hybrid turbo with cosworth -31 actuator
- Weber adjustable fuel reg
- Genuine Eds phase 3.5 ecu with 3 bar map sensor and powerwheel for adjustable boost
- Uprated high flow injectors
- Msd ingnition setup
- Bosch big power fuel pump with secondary swirl pump/pot also to prevent starvation under hard cornering/use etc.
- Genuine eds 3.5 ecu kit with in car power wheel to adjust boost settings
- Msd ignition setup.

History wise the engine came refreshed from Steve Milton in 2002 and as many know Steve knows his way round these engines. Its since been refreshed approx 2008 and only seen around 6k since according to Mark. The turbo had also been replaced with a hybrid unit from Turbo Techinics which was a bonus. For many years It only ran Genuine eds phase 2 so has never run huge amounts of boost either. A genuine eds 3.5 kit and Msd ignition replaced this a while back but again at least Its genuine and safe kit to run with the engine spec as it is. Still as always you take your chance with any motor and I know Mark likes to drive them hard but at least Its always been maintained and he certainly hasnt been shy spending on parts or custom work to achieve what he wanted with the car. Believe me their was a huge amounts of ££££ in receipts!

Can't believe you're selling that Nick tbh, don't think you'll ever find one better

Potential new car must be something exceptional to make you want to sell this surely?

Truth be told Edd I'd really like to finish it but other circumstances have made me think a different approach may be best. It will only be available for a few weeks as if what I'm after is sold theirs no point me selling so I won't.

Yes if someone steps up and takes it they won't find a better shell to work with.
