View Full Version : Power key not working on iphone 5.
The power key on my iPhone 5 has not been working for a few weeks. I've looked into it and it's a common hardware problem on iphone's and is covered under warranty, so Saturday just gone I took it in to my local o2 store to be repaired and left it with them.
Just checked my email... Yesterday I received an email from them saying it's not covered under warranty. Surely it should be covered as it's only just out of warranty (09/02/2014) and I've still got another year of contract. Any advice on what to say to get it repaired when I phone them later today?

I would try taking it to your local apple shop and see if they do it for free, worth a try anyway especially if it's a hardware problem.

Have you got phone insurance? I've got it with mine bank card.
If you don't then as Bazza said Apples your best bet, just take it in and down and don't mention the warranty.
Ironically this week my -vol button has packed in, it's not a software problem as I've done all the reset gubbins.
I've had iPhones since they came out and this is the first thing that's broken on me, I'm not bothered though as I can turn it down by swiping the popup screen.
If it's out of warranty period I'm sure they're not obliged to fix it for free

I thought the same.
Southie, I have insurance with my bank. Will give them a try if no luck with o2.
Iain & Benn, the phone was in warranty when I left the phone with them (08/02/14) and has expired whilst with them.
Called them just now and they've quoted me £190. I asked how it's so much and why isn't it covered under warranty. They replied; before they open the phone to repair the power key, they have to replace the missing glass on the back. Missing glass? The only damage (which they noted on the email receipt I have) when they took the phone from me was "scratches around casing".
Waiting for the manager to call me back.

Tell them you want you phone back now, the 5 doesnt have a glass back, thats the 4, the 5 has a metal casing on the back!!
If they cannot tell the difference between an iPhone4 and a 5, then you certainly dont want them poking about inside it

The 5 does have a glass back. The upper and lower panel are glass as both of mine have shattered. The overall design of the i5 is shocking. Really soft Ali casing that scratches and dents at the slightest knock. Wat a great idea.. Android for me next me thinks
Really, i thought they were metal, my mates both were, as thats how they made them lighter!
I went from a 4s to a samsung galaxy S4, sooo much better imo:thumb:
Stamp on it and buy a decent phone.

Everyone I know is coming back to the iPhone after leaving for the s3/s4. Look after an iPhone and it's fine, buttons don't like dirt and dust lol
Im still rocking an S2 & have been for nearly 3 years, couldn't give a funk for top notch phones what so ever.
Id still have a Blackberry but it met its end in an industrial oven at 80c, never worked properly after that.

Too right, mate!
2.5 years for me. Superb phone, that copes with being dropped a lot (iPhone? lol), grinding dust, water, oil etc.
Still fast as hell and can do anything I need and more.
iPhone w4nkers. lol
"Your Samsung is soooooo cheap feeling like OMG it's all plastic!"
"Yeah, cos it's a phone and needs to be light... Lets drop my S2 and your iMafcukingmug phone on the ground now and see who gets the broken screen..."
Fast forward a few eons and let Apple catch up with Android....
"OMGGGGG the new iPhail is lighter!!!"
I wouldn't pay in washers for an iphail.
Tiny screen and soldered in battery.

O2 should have sent you to apple in the 1st place. Apple are the only people that can repair your phone under warranty, they will look at your phone for damage, and if its not working because of a fault thats not due to you damaging the phone they will give you a recon phone there and then.
After waiting a few days for a phone call from the manager and having no answer whenever I phoned them, I went into the store before work and was told "the manager will be with you as soon as he has finished with the customer he is with now". Half an hour later and I'm still waiting. Then he finishes with the customer. Goes out back to get something, comes back out and walks out the store. Told the other staff I had to leave for work and will be back next week. I've been away since Sunday so will try again tomorrow before work. Not at all happy with the way they are dealing with me/my phone so will be contacting o2's head office as well.
Not had the same problem but had the problem with the charger jack,on my 3rd iphone 5 in 11months!demanded a brand new in box one after the second time they sent it away, can understand how pissed of you are waiting around for managers and phone calls ect was through same myself
