Hi all,

I've been a member on here for a long time now but post very little. I was lucky enough to be driving my car when the scene was at its peak in the late 90's and early 00's so I've seen a lot of Nova's! I was also lucky enough have it on the front of Total Vauxhall in December 13.

Anyway I have decided to break the car after 15 years in a few weeks, so I thought I would share a few pics and some info on it (bit late I know lol)

Bought in July 1998 as a 1 lady (nurse) owner it has gone from 100% standard to this.

Cheers guys - Benn, I'm approaching year 16 now and it's time for a change. Been commuting to work each summer for the last 3 years which has been a lot of fun - as well as amusing to my co-workers but as you'll know, even the best parts and most care make them unreliable.

I've read your thread for years - and Nick's - both very impressive :thumb:

Could be interested in selling complete but as anyone knows - they are worth a lot more in bits unfortunately.
I'll list all the parts in a few weeks, need to motivate myself to start dismantling it.

BENDOGGER
03-02-14, 09:39 PM
Yeah I know there worth more in bits but wondered if I could afford to save such a nice example pm if you want with price. Not saying I could buy but seem daft to break a nice one with them getting rare.

A good price yes but I bet nowhere close to what he could achieve in ££££'s splitting. I heard Mark saw approx 8.5k when he split his similar spec car. Plus martins shell is way better and should command a good price on its own IMO.

Nova's looking well Martin, Sorry to see your breaking it.

Benn, The Radiator is quite small width wise, but is taller and thicker than standard and copes well from my experience, it was all designed to sit straight across the front and for the Radiator and Fan to sit to the side of the Turbo and be tidy and discreet.

The hub carrier's are machined out to accept a larger bearing (from memory it was Sherpa Van or truck of some sort) and there is a retaining cap that holds it all in place. These hubs are an awesome bit of kit and I would be surprised if they don't get snapped up.

Oh right, i've looked at yours and Keiths, but clearly never enough. I always took it the rad was full length..
I like how that's done, Gives lots of clearance. Something i've had loads of probs with.

Hub one is new, never heard of using van ones. Very interesting way of doing it. If i even need to change i'm gonna use the Audi bearing route.

I guessed the wheels had been painted then the same paint used but with a matting agent for the bumpers. Really is Stunning nova mate. Ive got a little lad who's 5 an when he was younger i always seemed to be short of time but Now hes a bit bigger i seem to have a bit more time on my hands he now seems to love my nova. IMO u should keep it in storage and wait till your daughters a bit older, imagine going the car shows etc with her in a few years time in it and everybody admiring her dads ride :)

I have been inundated with questions about buying the car whole & I may be regretting mentioning my plan to break it so soon now. Nevertheless the car will be going either whole or in parts quite soon. To keep the car whole & for anyone interested I would really need offers around the £7000 mark - but even then I will probably lose out compared to breaking it, however it would be the easier option and nice to see it live on.

I'll be putting a proper for sale thread together very soon for the parts but anyone seriously interested in the full car should get in touch as quickly as possible.

Good price that and realistic. Just a case of finding the right person at the right time like I did, I wasn't even trying to sell my car when it went.

Also worth losing a bit of money to save the hassle of breaking and time wasters. Broke my mk1 MR2 last year and its been a real struggle selling everything, still got some parts left.

rob89
12-02-14, 08:57 PM
Agree with Lee (not because I bought his lol ) but the car is worth that... People are far too tight and expect everything for next to nothing. It's only going to get harder to find a base that doesn't need work to start with..

I don't think I could have built a car to the spec /condition of lee's for the money I paid for it and that's before you go into the little bits that people don't think about when building a car. I will hopefully have good updates for mine soon and I have spent probably around 3k on parts for it so far and it's just little bits here and there.

Hold onto it someone will see this come time and buy it up.

Connor

I would say thats a perfect price for a car finished to that level.

So they bolt in? That must space the wheel out a hell of a lot no?

The retaining cap bolts into the existing holes for the dust shield and holds the bearing in place, as the grooves for the clips are machined out. The wheels sit no further out than normal, it was all measured/calculated and machined so.

Made up by Race Engineers who have run Vectra's in several 24 hour races, could of gone all out and adapted the awesome ones they built for their Vectra, but they may of been a bit overkill!!

Hi Martin,
I see your hub questions have already been answered, but the centre caps are Compomotive MO caps - had them powdercoated heavily to drown the logo. However I did get a genuine (but rough) set of RL7 caps from eBay and they are identical just without the embossed logo.

No link for the caps I'm afraid as Compomotive have now gone bust, loads of 2nd hand sets pop up on eBay though and they are all the same size.
Wheel bolts are from here - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/sixonetwoltd/ came as a set that includes lockers too. They were the finishing touch for the wheels.

I was thinking exactly the same thing Benn!

@Martin Its been a while since I have fitted a Let to a nova and your engine doesn't look like its been moved forward by much - Usually you have to trim the "Turbo" cover - How did you facilitate this? I suppose it comes down to mount choice? Do you run a solid rear mounting?

Great pictures!!!

Stand corrected then benn :)

I did have a google around and noticed various distances between cover and firewall over the different conversions I looked at

It does have a solid rear mount, then a custom gearbox mount and a pretty standard front one. Both front mounts use standard rubbers. I have noticed the positioning varies too - all sorts out there!

iv never heard of the "turbo" cover needing trimmed, I can get my hand down the back no bother, always been like that with any LET I had in a nova
