hi ive just done a head gasket and new cylinder head on a nova 1.2 g reg with carburetta it all went back together fine with a reconditioned head now when I start it it only runs if you have the choke on or if you keep the throttle open, but when you let it idle it cuts out straight away ive tested the spark and its fine the fuel pump is working well and also compression tested it, all 4 cylinders came back 150psi does anyone have any ideas?

sound like a fuelling issue, blocked carb maybe?

I was thinking that but it was running well before I did the work what would you do with the carb?

Fuel feed and return the wrong way around has it got a full tank?
Fuel leak or kinked pipe
Breather pipe off servo pipe fitted just go double check every thing again

the pipes are on right and no kinks, the tank is low but above red, spent the last two days trying to work it out

i never run my tank below a quarter as it usually cases blockages in the carb, quick way to test is take off the air filter rev it fairly high (not stupid but enough) and put rag/hand over the top and hopefully it'll pull through the blockage. It might stall witch is fine when you do it. then fit a fuel filter from the pump to the carb or if you already have one renew it.

I never normally run mine below quarter either and ive tried it still wont idle but will try a new filter thanks anyone else got ideas?

If it was fine before you are just going to have to re trace all to find take the fuel pipe off the carb and put in a bottle and crank it over make sure u got a good flow of fuel as could have given up because you removed it does happen

tried that too fuel is flowing as normal just really annoying at the moment nobody that's looked at it can work it out

O_O

how on earth did you time it then? All you have to do is pop the timing cover off and turn it over until the marks line up.

If it was fine before, you have comp tested it, you have fuel and spark, then I would 100% check the timing lol what way did you line it up?

I used the marks but if its jumped a tooth that's why but the marks still line up if I turn it by hand twice
