11 Years later and Im back

Soooo ive been a member for a while now, been a browser of the projects section for years and years, long story short out of all the cars ive had in life theres always been one that’s remained In the back of my mind, my 1990 G Nordic blue 1.2 carb Vauxhall Nova Mk1 merit, had it at 16, put Sr wrap round spoiler on, smoothed and colour coded bumpers, facelifted to mk2 front end,16” TSW Alpines, banged 12 Months MOT on it and was having it as my first car.

Few months later though I got offered a more modern alternative which I also liked at the time and jumped at the chance, only being allowed one parking space by parents I sold it on..

So 58 cars later I wanted a Nova again so at Christmas started searching, saw this one amongst others but discounted it due to needing bit more work than wanted and getting stupid quotes for bringing it back for me.

Fast forward to last week and I get a message off Dan, owner of it saying its still for sale and was I interested as he’d had timewasters but wanted it gone, I was but things had changed and it wasn’t as viable, money being tight… end of story…not quite, I have the best Mrs ever, im 27 next month, exactly 11 years after getting my first Nova, My Mrs has brought me My opel Corsa A :D not only that, Dan been the great lad he is, dropped it off at mine as he could see it was going to a good home :D

But ill answer all that, mk2 is easier make look subtly nice, it’s the same colour as my first, ive already sorted the engine side of things and… odd or stupid as this will sound, most of my project cars have something different or special about them, the fact this was an import AND left hand drive tipped it for me

Theres another update i put up 2 hours ago but its for some reason awaiting confirmation by admin

All i know is its 91 made and was brought over in 1999 and registered to a lady down in Eastiegh Hampshire, Log book shows Dan (lad i brought it off) plus 1 other owner (lady mentioned) but not sure wether she was the owner when it was abroud, the car is honestly straight, relaitively tidy compared to a lot ive looked at.

I majorly recoginse your name, last one moreso, not sure if its cause ive been on here since 2006 or the fact im pretty sure you Knew my brother Gaz, had a Silver Nova Mk2 amongst other cars?

I like the Nordic Blue (think its that, correct me if wrong) so thats staying i think

New Mat set to go in

I have 2 sets of Astra Sport 15” alloys, making up a nice straight set to go on, this will enable me to fit my Cav Gsi 256mm front brakes

Also have a set of 15” Irmscher Softstars which may look better but not as subtle?

My favourite part, THE steering wheel, I was told when I brought it 3 years back that it was a genuine option pack steering wheel, how true or not I don’t know, but it does look the bollox :)

Busy this week but when i get chance im gonna fit a few bits and update, check roadworthy ness and maybe look at MOTability..

erm, how do I put this without sounding like a d1ck.
My family has/had a bit of a reputation and everybody seemed to know the 'doodar' family. Fortunately not so much these days as we're all growing up.

Will keep my eyes peeled around stoke for a LHD nova then. Body work seems pretty good with only a few small bits to do. Which can be expected of any nova. Ill look forward to more updates.

+ I have a good condition passenger side door for sale and a pretty good condition drivers side front wing (non original) if either are any use to you?

Great to read lad,the car looks tidy too.i live in Portugal and my nova is a left hand drive.i only got it last week,it's my second nova,as for your left hand drive dash board it's immaculate,I'm on the hunt here for parts,my dash is cracked from the heat,any other scrapped car I come across the dash is also cracked.hope you get yours on the road soon.

I got a spare pair of gen doors with it which ive yet to check out tbh and am bidding on a gen Passenger (your driver side) wing on bay, if i dont get that then i may be in touch, i nearly always fit genuine panels as up till 3 years ago owned my Own bodyshop so very very fussy on panel fit

and yes keep your eyes peeled, it may be driving in the middle of the road as im finding left hand drive a wee bit tricky haha lol

When i first started talking to the seller about it one thing i asked about got pic of was the lefty bits, dash, collum and steering rack as they seem increasingly rare and im pretty determinded i NOT converting it to RHD as i like the diffeentness of it :D

Well it just needed a 'tidy up' and then use it as daily while doing my big boost Alfa :cool:... Into the workshop it went, ermmm yep its rotten :wall: lol

the amount it needs for what looked to be a straight shell has quite surprised me tbh, iver restored a number of Corsas and this is easily worse but hey ho, 2x 1x2M sheets of metal and couple of cans of weld through primer and im getting through it :d

Probably bore you all here but i want show im doing it properly or atleast, how i think it should be and to a reasonable standard, Weld through primer used on backs of all panels, all visible rust cut out, any dotting treated and etched, sealed and gravd, any constructive criticism welcome as we all make mistakes and ill be honest its the first time ive had to do this type of work on a Nova, its not what i expected..

I am however using the work as an excuse to plan ahead so at same time as welding it up im strengthening the front jack points, doing some 'chassis plate kit' work and clearancing the front panel for intercooler space for future possibilities (i looked at this car when thinking of doing a B204 nova last year) and the rear arches will be flat skinned, Tailgate getting custom plate recess, maybe custom door handles and currently thinking of an ide to make the car a whole lot more retro.. :roll:

Looks like you are doing it right to me, the only thing I would say is drill through that splash guard repair and plug weld it to the bulkhead seam.

Looks like you are doing it right to me, the only thing I would say is drill through that splash guard repair and plug weld it to the bulkhead seam.


Its plug welded twice on top seem to strut tower repair and 3 times on top panel Apost, can just see the welds powerfiled back

have relaised ive screwed up with pics, have replaced all the flitch panel but missed the pics :(

What can i say Craig, im a Mini owner aswell lol i did promise myself a new setup this year but the Corsa has taken that monies :(

Many many many updates to come, fronts nearly all done, many parts brought from Steppy at weekend for its new look and discussions with one of the best in the business for how to do it.

Loving the hand made bits (prob better time wise to order bits up lol) looks like your putting your skills to good use there nothing makes you sicker than starting at one end of a nova to find holes everywhere as you go along
