so after replacing the front panel an cross member in have been putting the car back together again. All was going well lights wings all lining up fine but not so the bumper I have about a finger size gap under the grill all the way across ( wasn't there when I took it apart  ) How can I get more adjustment ? also on the bottom of the bumper there are square raised bits with holes should these match up with the holes on the bottom of the front panel :wall:. Hope this all makes sense cheers rich

You have got 2 bolts into the bumper bracket inside the inner wing on both sides?

Changing the pannel should not cause this but not the first time it's happened best put photos up if everything you can so can have a look

Failing that there is a prolem with the Pannel but the bumper bolts are on the leg not the Panel so you not changed that

Yes the holes in theory match up at the bottom in reality no one fits them back

That's the thing dave I replaced the front panel the bumper irons go straight in to the chassis legs fine holes line up fine it just seems that the whole thing is sitting to low but where the holes r in the bottom of the front panel there is a lip and my whole bumper is sitting behind that. now thinking it needs to be in front so the holes in the bottom line up and hopefully let the bumper up some more

It should be correct without the bottom bolts as i said not many use the bottom plastic clips infact found the first car ever that I had last month with them lol

Lets see pics and can go from there

all i changed was the bar behind the bumper so the car could be sprayed but one side wouldn't come off so its not like it was differnt one or anything

You changed the reinforcing bar ?
I do think mk1 and mk2 Are different so that's possible a problem

basically i took the front end apart and all was flush and perfect and the reinforcing bar never came off (well tried but one side dint want to give up) and all went back the same. unless i broke like a clip of something. and its a mk 2

So you don't know if it's clipped in or locked in properly so I'd say that's your problem if you undo it I bet it comes of far to easy

there re is one block on the back that sets the height within the bar I bet you pumped it with your palm to fit it probably squashing that block as you were to low
take it off and the bar it's self and spray the bolts from behind and get the l brackets off re fit it properly and I bet it looks spiffing lol

All I removed was the cross member an front panel when I put the new one in had the wings on ect for lining up and all was good. As it stands the wings, lights, grill all look fine its just the gap at the top of the bumper

Would removing the bumper from the reinforcing bar an having a play with that help? Also how do u remove the bumper from the re bar do u have to take the bumper off to do this or can u do it with the bumper on ?

That looks like a twitchy lip lol

basil looks like to low in ns and grill to high same side so Possibly the slam panels a touch high on that side.
a bit hard to tweak that on a mk2 grill realy

rich yes yes it's possible to tweak the brackets just weld the hole on the l bracket then drill it higher up lifting the bumper and yes all done when removed

rear bar just clips to the bumper so you pinch the clip together with pliers from one end and work to the other side pinching as you go

So you fitted it then I guess !

problem with after market is it's best to tack everywhere or screw/rivet it then re build the fu?£er to check it's a pain but worth it and when you pay someone they ain't gona do that

Wish I did fit it myself,, would have done a better job, I fitted the grill and bumper, threw it together and left it that way

I have to ask are genuine gm that much better than after market coz for my sins mine is non gen and seemed ok. That said I have got some panels coming over from Jeffery next month so hope they are worth the investment. looking to get all the panels for a proper rebuild are there any non gen panels that are ok to use where its not so critical eg rear arches sill ?

Rear ones are fine and cills some arch repairs can be crap and quarters but front Pannels are notorious I find to manybits coming to one point and if not done properly can cause problems as you may be finding gm ones also need to be checked there not perfect ether but a dam good start. Last front I had now sits lovely on project carbon so hopefully it's worth it I have a spurious one to fit soon will be treble checking it I think

The last photo is well hard to make out

bumper is sitting to far to the left and a little low correct?
Start at the top fit the bonnet so it's 100% the best you can
then look at the lights drivers wing looks to far out to me so the indicator not fitting correct probably the locating block under the light holding in wrong place (non gm again )
need to set all this up so it works because it don't at the min and then sort the bumper

yep to far left and low the drivers side wing looks to me like the best fit but both sides bolt to the new front panel quite nicely . The headlight blocks r brand new pushed in to the same hole the old ones came out of but there seems to be no adjustment on the blocks. The last photo is underneath to the left is the high bits in the bumper sitting on top of the lip in the cross member

dgbnova#1

There is no adjustment on the lights / blocks at the bottom did this not go with the front Pannel or is it original and you just did cross member

best to set bonnet up first then move wings to suit hopefully this will sort lights and grill then work the Bumper to suit
