What made the Vauxhall Nova such a hit among the nation's youth? Because it was such fun to drive? Because it was so well-made? Because it was cheap to run and cheap to insure? Nope. It's because it had flared wheelarches.

When I went to see too gear live they were showing footage of the up coming series, it showed bits of that episode and iirc there's a mk2 golf going round the shop aswell.

Its about time! The Nova gets unfairly left out of most features on hatchbacks of the time, the 205 and Golf get all the attention.

Clarkson has history with novas.... remember the video with the Vicky gbh sport vs the shagged old SD1 with the overbored engine.... nova was vastly quicker, but rover miraculously won.....

its not like he can't fit in a nova. my mate is as tall as him & never had a problem.

I've never really understood all the nova hatred, even when all the dodgy bodykits were popular.. cos all other cars were also covered in them. I often wondered if the motoring press had some grievance with gm over the nova.

The nova wasn't quicker in a straight line but when I spoke to Courtney about it at a show years ago they said it was scripted and if it was t they would of fitted a let instead

My guess is Hammond in a 205 GTi. The only good FIAT of that kinda time was an Uno Turbo.
