i have a 1.2 8v corsa injection an was wondering if there were any companies that could carry out a turbo conversion? has this been done before. i want to do something different rather than swop the engine for a bigger one

I cant see why not - if done right you could get pretty big power. After all the R5 Turbos' aint exactly a high cc engines.

I would have thought any after market turbo firm would help you out with it but it would be expensive. Things that spring to mind are:
1. CR - would this need lowering and if so how?
2. pistons - could use these to lower CR but would you need forged ones anyway? If so they are pricey.
3. Fuelling. How are you going to monitor and deliver the necessary extra fuel?
4. ECU - what to use?

Have ago and see :D

to drop the CR could use a 1.4 or 1.6 head ;)

a reverse mod to the norm lol

u'd really need mappable MPi fuelling rather than the crappy spi thats on there just now

u could maybe use a GTE head and inlet and remap the ecu to suit

the 1600 head would be sure to lower the CR plenty and im sure the 1600 injectors would be fine for the fuelling

There was a feature in CCC fcukin ages ago for a turbo 1.2 in a Nova. Isn't it pretty much the same engine?

How much power are you expecting to get? Not to sure how much power the internals can take. Can't be that much, so is it really worth it for the cost.

P.S i can try and find the CCC article if you want.

which month was that in CCC? I can't remember seeing it

Quite straightforward if you only want a small gain.
Those engines are fairly low CR if you do the head swap mention above, so thats the biggest hurdle over come.

They you just need a couple of manifolds and a blower.

Then sort the fuelling out with an ERL MF2, for about 400 quid or so, and easy to set up yourself (ive got a new one for sale with a recon injector for 240 if you are serious)

Only other issue then is the ignition timing, for low boost you'll be fine on the standard curve probably but for more boost you will need mappable or some sort of boost related retard mechanism.

Im sure you could do the whole thing for under a grand quite happily if you DIY as much as possible of it.

have you thought about converting it to a carb? a set of twin 40's maybe? Then make up a plenum chamber to bolt on the back of them

I cant see any real benefit in that, far better to keep it injection and just add an extra injector, much more easily mapped that way.

the 1.2 is allready a sturdy engine, has got short rods so pretty strong, most of its the same as the 1.3, do the head conversion and convert it to multi point injection. shudnt b too much work and not cos much. wot turbo u wanna use?

T2 would be ideal i should think

I have that CCC mag here, February 1999.

The nova was a 1L Turbo, this was achieved with a 1200 block with liners taking it to 1L pistons from a Metro giving 985cc. Head was from a 1600, cam from the 1200, carb from a Renult 5, massive intercooler, max boost 1.5bar, cr 7.5:1. 130hp @ the flywheel, 126 lbft torque. Dave thought it could make 180hp!!! :o
