i have been toying with the idea of changing my 1.2i for a bigger engine for a while now but cant decide which one to get.

i fancy an SRi engine due to reasonable insurance + reliability over SR engines but with the SRi being quite rare i would think that these would be very hard to get hold of.

the other option is a GSi engine which has all the benefits (i think) of the SRi engine, would be easier to get hold of and faster but i dunno if i could afford the insurance on it

what do u lot think?

where would be the best place to get one of these engines from??? bearing in mind i live nr newcastle

find a rit off donor, or find someone who has done the trasnplant with a bigger engine, therefore they would have the original not in use!

bes bet is to fone the insurance for a quote, my bro wanted to drop in a bigger engine into one of his cars, they quoted too much, so he sold it and bought a car with a bigger lump!

the 1.6 sounds a good idea!

theres nothin unreliable about the sr engine as long as it's fitted and set up properly. also with a few cheap mods the sr is easily quicker than the sri.

neway the sri isn't an easy engine to find in a breakers so id say go with an sr for cheap insurance, and if ur goin to the hassle of puttin a 1.6 in id use a 1.6 16v from a corsa as it's more or less the same amount of work and is a better platform to mod on.

as for where to find engines there are loads of breakers round newcaste. don't ever but an engine without seein it runnin. also if u can buy an engine that u can remove urself or as suggested earlier get ur self a write off and source evrithin from there. why ur on ull need uprated brakes so get urself some 16v brakes of ne 2litre 16v vaux
