has anybody else had this problem?

alternator seems to sit slightly in causing belt to rub the casing?

ive had other xe's and they have a gap between the belt cover n belt?

all bushes are fine and new

thanks :thumb:

Mine has rubbed the belt cover slightly too. The alt was out of line enough to flip the belt under prolonged periods of high RPM too, so I've slotted the bottom alternator bracket holes to position it correctly.

Yeah mine did, Used to do like IaIn's a flip the belt. I slotted the bracket (think i told iain too) it straighten the lining up of the belt and it fixed it.

Before.

That's all a std line up spacer wise, i'd have thought yours would b the same... But my pulleys have been machined down for more clearance (as you can see in the pic) Just incase you wonder.

That's only about a 3mm slot too.

Does it work? turn ok? Power the car ok? If yes then it's ok. But some one might of had it a part and added or left bit/spacers/washers out.

Mine used to spin the belt inside out or fire it off... Noticed one day how pissed it was, so slotted it to correct the angle and pull it in to the cover a bit more. I slotted it to much and the belt wore thru the cam belt cover. So have to be careful, push it right over then move it back the tinyest bit back.. Is about a 1mm off the cover. But the belt is 100% straight now.

I had 2 XE alternators in front of me and they both had different spacers/setups regards to positioning the pulley away from the fan

So another option is to remove the main nut and re-space it further from the belt if necessary without slotting the bracket.
