when fitting front coil overs do you need to by the round spacer so it sits correctly or can you just bolt it up straight through the bay and bolt the main nut onto the strut through the bay?

in other words will the coilovers mount to the standard top mounts?

No

as long as you slacken the big nut in the middle first with the car wheels still on the deck. you use the car body weight to compress the spring. as you jack up the car the tension slowly comes off the spring.
