Hi all.

Basically after a new "fast road cam" for my nova. 1400 carbed engine. It will be having 4 branch exhaust manifold with twin 40 weber carbs.

Would like a cam to match in nicely with this set up. Not had any experience with a different cam to the standard one, so here is my question.

If you have or had a similar set up, what cam would you recommend?

Autosprint in Birmingham do some good cam in different specs.
I use one in my rally car.

Kent ast2 cam.

Worked superbly with my 1600 8v and my 1300 8v both running twin 40s

I think piper do a very similar one called the bp270, someone correct me if I'm wrong as I've only dealt with kent cams. Would be worth giving newman cams a shout too.

Do you a newman cam not a prob if interested. Their ph1 is actually 11.15mm lift. Looking at ast2 its 10.30. Whichever cam you go for you will be looking at a spring kit too suit. I know there are a few lads who like the ast2 cam. Personally I wont touch kent/piper for 16v cams are found them to be way off mark with powerbands.

My 1400 has a kent 051 cam it is mild but you do get more when you rev it

Phillip. Spring kit with a cam? I don't mind admitting I'm a complete noob when it comes to cams and stuff. I thought if your engine was in good working order then it was a simple case of bolt on as it were?

Edit: I am running an 8v not a 16v :thumb:

Kent ast2 all day long in any of the ohc small block 8v engines, it works so damn well that there isn't any need to look elsewhere imho

As said Kent AST2 or Piper 285 (I have one of these in my Sport)

I would like to see a RR printout on both of these to compare (in a similar spec engine)

I had a Piper BP285 in my 1389cc and it was one of the sweetest pickups from 3k to 7.5k.

Same here, mine was running bike carbs at the time and revved to 8k though lol
