Drive shafts

Hi all!! I am currently about to take out my 1.2 engine and fit a 1600cc 8v carb engine and box out of a astra mk2! its coming with a 5 speed box drive shafts and hubs, only question is???? will I need to shorten the astra shafts or will they fit straight in??? or if so what will I need to do? thanks for the advice oh mighty nova Gods :d:d:d

just which engine is it?? the mk2 astra carb engine iirc is a big block, so it will need the whole mounts & conversion shafts thing, which is probably not really worth it for the hp gain. but will be handy for a later change to an xe or seh.

ps. count the splines on the inner end of the drive shafts, if they are the same on the nova & astra ones, you will be able to simply change them over.

nice one mowgli I don't wanna go c20xe the engine is a 1.6 8 v that's all I know at the moment as I pick it up sunday lol just wondering in my head what I need to have a excuse to buy off ebay lol

Going for the big block 1600 is a waste of time and effort for the gains, as mowgli said, get a 1600 small block 8 or 16v and most stuff will just transfer across.

Ye it's gona cost more in bits needed than a complete small block sv carb motor and you can probs sell that 1.6 motor for good money on eBay and save weight money and effort on a heavy old lump

when I put a 16SV into one of my 1.2's.. i had to change the ignition system over (i used a 1.4 carb setup from a 14NV, which was straight swap, only 1 wire on the (+)coil to snip and join) ... i also needed to modify the lower radiator hose. everything else from the 1.2 switched over.

oh forgot to mention youll need a 1600 exhaust system for it to clear the sump.

I wouldn't advise the transplant tho, its a crap engine, only about 80 horse. i was left disappointed.

it would have been better off with a 1.3. or going the whole hog and switching to 16V MPI
