I though this was a neat idea for a thread after a crazy moment tonight in Dad's truck on the way to the Machine Mart noVAT sale :p Basically, if you have a story of any time that a friend/relative has surprised you a piece of awesome skill, driving or otherwise. Preferable the type of story where you're not even sure if they meant it lol

Anyway, my old man is 71. Recently beat cancer, suffering from Parkinson's for the last 10 years. He's on a DVLA Aware driving licence, so he's limited to 3.5ton + trailer these days instead of having that lovely full licence to drive everything ever like he used to. Despite this he's still pretty handy with the spanners and makes occassional comebacks to 4x4 trials. What what I gather from old results sheets I have dug out and some pictures, he had a brief racing career in the 70's (he claims to not remember it so well) as a driver in a Morgan 3-wheeler which yielded 1 win, and time spent as a sidecar passenger! He followed this with a short comeback in 2002 with an MGB Roadster, as well as competing in off-road events from 96-present day.

Anyway, he's pretty steady on the road these days. His foot twitches a lot so he's constantly on-and-off the throttle, which is funny to begin with but grows tiresome. He's got a Ford Ranger 3.0l diesel truck and we were heading to Machine Mart to catch the end of the sale. Just leaving the end of our road, he realised he left his list of part numbers at home and announced that we had to go back. He moved the truck to the left as we came up to a traffic island in the middle and I thought "I'd be lucky if I made this turn in the Corsa without the handbrake." Anyway, he turned in behind the island and then lit it up! The back came around and we were perfectly in the middle of the lane to be heading back to the house! I looked at him and he was a bit wide-eyed and had a massive grin on his face. I said "Did you mean to do that?" He just winked lol

So I don't know if his foot twitched or what, but it was awesome :d

My mams driving always has me sitting on the edge of the seat and yeah it's usually because I'm bracing for potential impact, hedge, roll, death.

Sadly she doesn't know how to do wheel spins, I tried to teach her once but she just accelerated up the road at high speed hit the limiter and screamed.

Sounds like great fun!

One of my mates once phoned me and asked me if I would paint his Nova saloon rear wheel arch for him as he had scraped it. Sure I said. He told me where he had scraped it, against a lampost in a one way street. I was confused because the scrape was on the driver's side and there were only lamposts on the passenger side on this particular one way street. Also it was the rear door (more door) that was scraped and the whole rear arch was almost flush.

Turns out he parked on the pavement between the civic hall and the lampost, heard the scraping and kept going hoping to pass whatever was causing it! Some poeple shouldn't have a driving licence.

Incidently, it was the fastest 1.2i saloon I ever saw anywhere, he skidded it round most corners and was completely oblivious......some scarey stuff. (he had previously smashed his mini twice)

Cool story,

As a youngster i used to go out in the artic with my gramp (he still drives them now at 74). After a long slow journey with a milk tank we dropped it off at stonehouse dairy and left with just the cab. Got to the gates and he modestly said, these things dont half move without a trailer, lit up the back wheels, stepped out the back end and span up the road shifting 1st 3rd 5th etc.

To say i was shocked would be an understatement.

Trucks are awesome, I would love to get my licence to drive trucks but its so expensive and nearly every truck driver I've spoke to has said its not worth it!
