When it comes to might welding our beloved cars is disconnecting the negative from the battery and unplug the ecu lead from it enough protection. Or should a surge protector b used there seems to b a lot of different opinion about the subject. Mines a gsi so more worried about the ecu cheers folks

most people disconnect the battery and ecu as a precaution. it only takes seconds on a gsi

ive always disconnected the battery and the alternator never worried about any ecu's. the alternator, or the rectifier in the alternator, can be sensitive to surges from welding

disconnecting negative earth terminal is enough.
no need to bollocks about with ecu as theres not a complete circuit for it to travel to.

The serge protector will be enough as thats what they are made for. If you dont have one, neg lead off the battrey is fine.
