I know a few of you own Audis so I thought you might have some input on this

I currently own a 05 vectra cdti with 84k on the clock and im thinking of replacing with a

1. a4 avant 2.0dti s line newer with higher miles have seen a 07 plate one with 99k on clock full service history including belts done £7500

Or

2. a4 avant 2.0dti s line with average miles have seen a 05 plate one with 70k on clock full service history belts due to be done shortly £7100

3. Or play it safe and get a insignia sports tourer with 35k on the clock 2010 full service history £9300

im wanting something that will be reliable to use up for about 10k a year just not sure if the 07 audi would be that with near 100k on clock

Insignia would be ok but not really wanting to shell out that much on a car

Any input would be great cheers

Ive never seen miles as a huge issue to be honest, id much sooner buy a 100k car thats been at a good home, serviced properly, not thrashed from cold etc than a 50k car thats been driven by a undesirable lol. I have a clio 172 cup on 148k and it runs like a dream and still pulls like she did on 75k when I got it nearly 8years ago

Rob I had a high mileage vectra cdti before and it never let me down got it up to 145k before I got the one I have now, but if I'm spending a lot of cash I'm wanting something that will last a good few years

now jack I do like that and with 180bhp I'm thinking it would be a fun wagon :)

The thing that's putting me off audi is I have heard the 2.0tdi has a oil pump balance shaft problem and if it goes its expensive, I do want an audi but its gotta be a diesel

Makes sure you get an 06 Audi if it's a 2.0tdi, they revised the oil pump design

Mate its a lotto buying a 2nd hand car. You could buy one with 200k and it be fine, but you could buy one with 35k on it and it always goes wrong. The only thing with high mile cars is selling them on.

I have just sold my BMW E46 320cd sport and got a A3. I think the BMW was a lot better car, more fun to drive and better laid out in side. But the main thing with the A3 I have found there is a bigger blind spot in the mirrors, I find it harder to park and when I over take you have to be passed them more before you can see them to pull back in. But the A3 does do really good MPG.

I have looked at bmw tourers but bit pricey for the model im after yeah I heard the later ones had a different pump, im just going to hang tight till the right car turns up I think

If you went for the bmw you need to remove the swirl flaps asap, these can fall into the engine and kill it. Its not too hard to do your self but it needs to be done. Some people will say dont worry about it, but my mate got a 320 cd and he booked it in to get them in to be removed and the day before they fell off and killed the engine.

Same thing on my vectra swirl flap bar came off I had to get a new inlet manifold costing a fortune

Ive currently got a 2.0 TDi A4 (2007 S Line) done a shade over 14k miles in it since early July. Was a low miler when I got it granted (43k) but not had any issues so far. I do mega motorway miles & average around 58mpg, considering I do about 90 everywhere on the motorway its not to bad. The only downside is the TDi's are service happy, every 10k miles or they constantly beep at you to remind you it needs doing (which is farking annoying at 6am every morning!)

I looked at a few BMW 1 series before getting the A4, but been told by a few people there pretty useless in the snow so opted for a FWD instead.

One of the pool cars at work was an 05 Passat TDi Auto, they had it from new and it died at 258k miles (gearbox failure) but its basically an A4 in disguise and lasted forever lol

If you want my honest opinion though, if your only doing 10k a year, I wouldn't waste your money buying such expensive car as a £4k Vec/Avensis/Mondeo Titanium derv will easily do that in its stride.

All you need is a set of chains lol

We have a 180 and its a good mile muncher. Its not so much the power, its the torque - more than my dad's 11 plate S3 Quattro lol - and its got pretty much the same suspension setup as my GT4, so goes round corners well for a big FWD barge. Doesn't have the badge tax of the Audis and VWs, and if you get an 07 onwards one it'll have the full colour satnav. Just need to keep the EGR valve clean and it should be good. Hatchback or estate are the ones to get, saloons don't really make best use of the cavernous boot.

lol at the BMW lol

got to say I wouldn't say having super strut suspension is a good thing tbh, yes the handling is sh!t hot but there's always something that goes wrong, (in my experience anyway) always having to replace a suspension arm or figure 8 got tiresome after spending ££££s

maybe the newer stuff is a bit more refined now though.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an estate car I want an audi s line but might end up with a insignia sports tourer lol

i have even seen a 08 vectra Sri Estate that might be on the cards I had one before but it got mega high miles so had to get shot of it

Thats the first thing I thought when we went to look at one and I nosed underneath lol but apparently its setup to be more durable and not quite so grippy as the GT4, so lasts a lot longer

I think I'm leaning towards a bmw 320d now just for the fact its got better extras as standard and I have test drove a m sport one what a car was gonna buy it but turns out to be a cat d :(

It had been rear ended not to bad as the guy showed me a pic of damage but I'm not really wanting a accident damaged car because most insurance company's are funny about paying out on the

I sell vw / audis for a living and people are buying them in larger numbers than most cheaper alternatives alot of the time because they are believed to be far more reliable than alot of the competition . However your going to find a fault on anything if you search for one but I would advise you to look for a specialist service history as it's constantly overlooked how important using the correct longlife oil is , also try and find one that hs just had it's injectors done as these cost 400 + vat each plus fitting other than that as previously mentioned t belts , oil pump revises and listen/look for worn dual mass fly wheels . Hope this helps

What ever you do, don't get a A1. They arr frigging sh*te. Smaller inside than a nova... even the 5door has no room in the back, boot is smaller than a Nova even tho the hatch is massive! No room by your feet either, nothing is in a easy place to get to it (window switches in the rooms but set really far back)
