I have good second had ones if they are any use for copying, I was asked before about it but was a bit worried about losing them,

Southie

IMO it would worth buying a rolling shell with decent ones intact to copy, then resell the shell on once done.
theres bound to be a call for these as a group buy if decent copies are made.

At £50 for a pair of new rear legs, I could not refuse.
An investment maybe, would get a better return on my money than putting it in a savings account.
Maybe an insurance policy for my fleet

bazil
18-12-13, 08:40 PM
Well im planning on chopping these once they are fitted for rear turrets, cant really reuse the ones still on the car

Come on Rich make someone very happy for Christmas, you know he's going to get plenty of coverage on his build... You can say "I supplied vital parts for that car" lol

Bazza, Rich needs a big mention in Total vauxhall or any other motoring magazine you get this rotter into lol

bazzap8389
18-12-13, 08:42 PM
They look pretty solid bazil  lol

would you consider selling 1 set Rich?

philip
18-12-13, 08:51 PM
What if dave put rich in contact with whoever can make the copies. I know how people get with steel rs escort wings/anglia wings etc with the fords but if proven they wouldnt get lost of damaged. You could make some money on each set sold surely?

I set of looking for myself hit the same problem not available and have had this issue b4

It's got to be gm original with nothing on really items are scanning by laser to something silly like .002 mm so even blasting small ding can throw it off and the dies are not cheap so I would not be happy to fork out all that money to chance, I did think useing used ones would be ok dipped but it appears they have had trouble with items in the past.

The 3d image goes to cnc the pannel die and if say has a dent it may not come off the die or fold property

I also know there's intrest in my original enquiry but need the parts to carry on

bazil
18-12-13, 09:09 PM
I think it was Dave that asked me about this a while back, I said no because I didn't know the guy or at that point had any dealings with him. I have had now lol

I was going to send the legs I have to paint strip and have then cleaned up, I would also be willing to remove the inner sills from my spare shell as I could be doing with new ones of them too,

Southie
18-12-13, 09:29 PM
Surely it can't be that hard to get replicas, they originally were made 30 years ago for probably naff all and technology has come along now much better that a replica will be better than the originals.

bazil
18-12-13, 09:39 PM
More to the point, if they are even 0.5mm out its still better than the factory tolerances lol

Southie
18-12-13, 09:44 PM
Make them from wood Bazil lol

dgbnova#1
18-12-13, 09:44 PM
True but as we know how much money vaux must pay for just one pannel I'm a joiner not a billion pound company and yes its possable for me to get them made because Tec is so much better but cnc would follow spot welds, crap plated steel but I do take on the cost if there no good.

philip
18-12-13, 09:45 PM
Any ideas on pressing costs for these parts? If have the main panels repro'd im sure you would male a small fortune. Rally lads still prefer the novas but smashing them for **** these days lol

dgbnova#1
18-12-13, 09:45 PM
But yes basils prob correct better that factory lol

I will speak to cnc guy tomorow

dgbnova#1
18-12-13, 09:49 PM
Pressing in nothing compared the dies thats the cost will try to get some figures, anyone got some photos of them like richs ones so I can forward them on?
Ps its a pannel not a leg in short skirt ffs rich lol

bazil
18-12-13, 09:50 PM
The thing about the legs is there is 3 sections to it, its cant be made in one go as each section is a different thickness,

You have the thinest section which is the longest part
The section that joins onto the inner sill and quarter panel which is thicker
And the thickest part is the spring cup,

Im no expert but id say each part would need to be scanned individually,
Covering up scabbed metal or spotwelds is easy, skim and shape,

Southie
18-12-13, 09:54 PM
Cut into 3 sections then copy each part, for most people out there that build Novas nowadays all are very capable of welding so I reckon you could even sell them on in 3 part kits.

bazil
18-12-13, 09:56 PM
CUT !!!!!!!!!!! WTF ?????? lol

Carefully removed lol

Southie
18-12-13, 09:57 PM
Bolloocks cut them lol you'll be making better quality materials than the originals lol

bazil
18-12-13, 09:59 PM
You stick to photoshop mate and never ever do bodywork lol

If you involved a grinder to remove any of the sections it cant be reproduced in its original form

Edd
18-12-13, 09:59 PM
You can buy the spring cup as a separate pattern part from mmDronton

bazil
18-12-13, 10:03 PM
All the better :)

In fact the only section that would really be needed would be the long thin section,

Southie

lol lol Dinna worry about it all good banter lol

any idea what the turn around for 1 would be if the place can replicate them? The back end of my car is getting started in early January lol I'm so prepared lol

bazil
18-12-13, 10:16 PM
If required I could strip the legs to daves requirements and send them after xmas,

What im thinking is that the thick parts ( spring cups, axle mounts, inner sill join area ) dont need to be replicated as they should be ok, leaving the actual leg bare, easier to copy and cheaper too?

bazil
18-12-13, 10:17 PM

Will ask about answers to dates tomorow.

Yes I know its in three sections but no its not needed to be dissasemled ad once its scanned any weld tabs can be added etc as needed, if its scanned In can do various alterations to say thicker steel possably

bazil
18-12-13, 10:54 PM
Ah cool :)

dgbnova#1
19-12-13, 12:07 PM
Just had a chat re these its not gona hapen over night and costs are fairly high so I would want UN fitted original ones as like I thought it willpproduce exactly what it scans which in this case will be god knows what only thing would be having to prep the legs as if new for scans I suppose

dgbnova#1
19-12-13, 12:23 PM
Problem is more time I'n development the more it costs obevisly so if its finished items then its cheaper

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

Frigging love that!

CAn't you just go to a metal fab place with the size and get some knocked up?

I did when i needed a bit replacing, cost be £20 for a meter of matching shape metal.

dgbnova#1
19-12-13, 05:58 PM
Mine has gone further that that and if its factory look then better imo, I could do that myself or have probably 5 people who could to exactly that with the machines the lot but still will not look as good as original.

I'm talking to a few people as 3d scan is a few companies I'm getting quoted from as this appears to be the money one and cnc another then metal press a 3rd
