Well here I am again, back in nova ownership and loving it. I'll list prgress and details of the car here.

I aquired the car off another forum member (Graeme) last month and am really happy with it.

The spec of the car was great after the work graeme had done to so all I need to do is add my own mods to put my mark on it.

Here's a quick run down of how I got it with some pictures.

Engine and transmission

E16se 1.6 8v from a same year gsi complete with f13
Unmolested original air box with K&N panel filter
Full magnex with stainless steel four branch extended by blue flame exhausts with diesel style tail pipe
Egr removed

Suspension
Vectra supertouring wheels just refurbed at f1 alloys in dark gun metal with brand new Uniroyal rain sport 2 on the front and rain sport 1 on the rear
Bilstein B8 with larger group a rear shocks, Spax Rsx rear spring and eibach front springs
Gsi front and rear anti roll bars
Plated bottom arms
Quaife quick rack the new rack ends
Rally designs polybushes through out
Five stud conversion using meriva front hubs in new nova bearings and cav v6 rear hubs
Ebc Vectra v6 288 front disks and green stuff pads
Goodrich braided brake lines
Rose jointed front tie bar mounts with gsi tie bars

Exterior

Unpainted gsi front bumper
Both front wings replaced the new hadrians items in July 2012
Four good doors sourced, delocked and painted in July 2012
Boot lid also replaced, delocked with a new gm item
Top tinted green screen, rear screen and front glass
Smoothed and painted rear panel
New headlights and indicators
NJC style red and clear rear lights with twin reverse and twin fog

So since I picked it up I have added a couple of things to personalise it:

Pioneer deh p80mp head unit
Vibe k series se69 6x9 speakers in the rear shelf
1000w 4 channel amp (unsure what make off the top of my head)
Unpainted GSi sideskirts modded for 4 door
Rear spoiler
Unvented laguna front splitter
Original reg back on the car with legal pressed plates and genuine opel dealership surrounds

Future plans are:

Kent nvo62 cam
Big valve port polished head
Group N ecu (if I can find another one)
Tailpipe change
Tick type GTE digi dash
Lowered a little more
Blue check sri rear seats with rear headrests
twin 12" subs in the boot pwered by a 1200w Vibe monoblock amp (theres enough room for them :) )
Re trim the rear door cards to match the front
Paint interior plastics black and maybe a GSi or totally flocked dash

That should be all for the time being, may look into chucking an xe in in the future but no plans to for a bit yet.

I think its when the headlights stay on for 30 or so seconds when the alarm activated so youncan get you key in the door. Or so the mugger can get a good look at your watch and phone lol

Yeah basically hold the button down on the remote and the headlights remain on.

Great for my street as I park directly across from my door on an unlit street. Not so great for my neighbours but meh.

And the other plate was retained by graeme for his new car.

Got a few bits and bobs done over the Christmas period notably fitted some plain black mudflaps due to be swapped for the vauxhall/opel dealer decalled ones. Fitted my momo steering wheel. Rigged up the interior light to work on the rear doors. Also fitted the boot lid cover that came with the car and wired in the leds that are fitted in it to come on as a boot light although I have some more led strips to fit on the back of the seats for complete illumination.

A few jobs still left to do are wire in the under bonnet light and replace the worn hub on the drivers side. The bottom pinch bolt had come loose and the resulting movement has worn the hub itself :(

I've also got to fit some bonnet lifters to the boot as the lid cover is made of fibreglass making it quite heavy so the original springs can no longer hold it up lol

Will get some pics at the weekend it for those interested.

I'm also picking up some gsi rear seats and the ford recaros that nath2905 had for sale so they'll need fitting too.

I've also had to change the rear speakers as I may have played them hard enough for the cones to pop off the rubber damper and I've also managed to blow the amp up :eek: so that needs replacing too.

The rears look like they've never been sat in and I'm massively surprised at how much comfier they are than nova recaros.

Only signs of wear are the fold down button surround and a tiny fag burn on the rear seat and a relatively small amount of bolster wear on one front seat.

Well tj has been off ill today so I had the day off. He was more than happy playing on the xbox so I set about swapping my interiors.

Had to modify the sri subframes to fit the recaros but a drill and a pair of mole grips did the job no problem.

Ebay, search corsa a 4/5 door as none come up for nova.

They're made my climair so are a bit rounder looking and deeper than the heko ones.

After seeing them in the daylight today I'm not 100% on them but I'll give it some time and see whether they grow on me.

This is the girlfriends car bought by her, for her with no input from me until the inevitable 'can you pick me a car up on the truck'

It's a 1.2 luxe plus, its mechanically well looked after, the interior is mint and it even has the spare 5th alloy with brand new original tyre, the original first aid kit and tool kit and paper including the original bill of sale.

Looks sorry for itself bodywork wise as it needs 3 of 4 doors as they're completely rotten and the nsr arch needs replacing as thats shot too but the sills are solid with only surface rust as is the fuel filler area and osr arches.

Anyway hopefully this will nudge her on to start her own wip thread on it :)

Oh and if anyone's breaking a 4/5 door can you give us a shout cheers.

Well got my cam fitted today and while I was there gave it a service, cleaned the air filter, new bosch super 4s, fresh oil filter and oil, new thermostat and rad/heater matrix flush. Just got to do some minor adjustments on the ignition timing.

Well hit my first set of issues last week. Piston rings on number three gave out. That pressurised the oil system blowing the main breather pipe and the rocker cover to inlet breather spewing most of its oil out on the motorway. Managed to bodge the breathers back on a topped the oil back up and managed to limp to my destination (alder hey for an appointment for tj). So now I'm in the middle of sourcing another block/engine to throw in to get moving again.

Gonna use this as an excuse to do some engine mods though. I'm thinking overbore, headwork, larger valves, porting and full engine lightening and balancing.

Got the replacement engine delivered yesterday, cheers dgbnova#1:thumb: , came with the report of having arp rod bolts fitted so I got the sump whipped off the check. Also I changed the sump gasket while I was there.

Wasn't too keen on the red so wire brushed all the loose flaky stuff off and gave it a quick spray down and wipe with brake cleaner. Had some black high temp paint in the cupboard so a couple of coats of that were applied. Not a spectacular job but good enough to cover the red.

Stripped out the timing belt, water pump and pulled the top end off ready for fresh items to be put in.

Wanted to know the exact cause of the failure of the old engine so pulled the car in and pulled the head off that. Got quite a suprise when I did!!!!!!

Looks like the engines been running very lean as there's a nice hole melted into piston 3.

this buggers up my plans for using the block as a base to rebuild a further modified engine due to the groove its worn into the cylinder wall :( :( :(

got the new block and box built up and thrown back in the car without any issues, added my original head and my high lift cam. The head was tested while it was off for any damage to the valves and all checked out well and valves still sealing but gave them a quick relap whilst it was off.

Got all the ancillaries and wiring and piping back on the car. By this point it the light was starting to fade so I called it a night. Gonna go finish off today.

Once back together I'll thrown it on the emissions machine and check the situation with the co and adjust it. Will post up further progress later on.

Well after putting my engine in 2 weeks ago I found that something in the box had slipped leaving me with no drive :( ordered a replacement c374 f13 out of a corsa b to replace it with. Attempted to fit this last thursday evening only to discover that the pick up on the diff for the speedo drives were different. :( . As I'd already taken my box off I stripped my diff out to find one of the pinion cogs (can't remember the technical name for it) had dropped out and as such was a simple case of re-meshing it correctly with the other cogs. So that left me with one fully working nova c374 gearbox and one surplus corsa c374 gearbox.

At this point I turned the fueling up with the car hooked up to the emissions machine so it's now running a tad rich but better than lean as evident by the previous engine damage.

I've been running it round for the past week giving it some good stick. (Just to make sure everythings ok you see :thumb: ) im happy to report it's taken all the abuse and not blown up on me so I decided to swap some parts today.

Got the opel logoed mud flaps on along with the Engleman mirrors and swapped the splitter for a proper vented laguna one :) heres some pictures

Been a few months since I last updated so here's a quick rundown of what's been happening.

Not a lot......

To be fair, the nova has had to soldier through some minor problems recently with both the headgasket giving up after a few weeks of fitting the new engine (my own fault as I didn't retorque the head after a warmup period) and the gear linkage exploding leaving me to plan trips in advance as not getting into a situation that required 5th or reverse. Not as easy as you may think.

A few replacement linkages were sourced, fitted and broken almost immediately so I bit the bullet and bought a fully rose jointed short shift one that has fully cured all gear changing problems.

I've also had the sideskirts and tow eye cover off to the painters and had them colour matched to the bumper, the paint chips in the tow eye cover and fadedness of the skirts were doing my head in. Also fitted a standard rear panel.

another job ticked off has been the list has been a bit more lowering with gaz coilovers up front and lower springs in the rear.

The front wheels need spacing out by a few mm due to the st wheels catching the coilover body on the inside but once spaced out the tyre caught the arch lip. :( I had 3 options at this point, add camber with the adjustable top mounts, raise the ride height or roll the arch lip. So now all 4 arch lips are suitably flat and there are no rubbing issues at all. The rears also needed spacing out a touch to negate inner arch rub when cornering. This also filled the cabin with tyre smoke. Not ideal for my son.

I went a tad mad and bought half of greames parts stash too to spruce it up a bit including, more flocked parts, scuttle cover, heated seat setup which are now all fitted aswell as an upgrade to the sound system with a new headunit fitted and new jbl subs and a fancy competition amp too. While I was working on the inside I gave it a tidy out.

But with the nova clocking on and some rust issues found and sorted at mot time I've taken the decision to take it out of daily use and confine it to weekend use. It's daily replacement is a new astra sports tourer 2.0 cdti. So I've now joined the derv reveloution and all it's repair and servicing needs can be handled by vauxhall.

due to this my collection has been scaled back with the cav glsi being re homed in luton and the cav 4x4 getting re homed in south wales.

Also with the nova going into weekend/show use only I bought it a pressie and a reason for me to tinker with constantly :lol:

Already taken car of, all rot cut out, new metal in and waxoiled. Took alot of underseal off just to check the seems hadn't began to go anywhere else. Thankfully it was only confined to the main join so shouldn't be any further issues.

Well I cautiously drove past the opelfruits stand (sporting some incredible looking motors) and parked up in the png club stand then was kept busy by my lad with demands of bumper cars, bmx, food and drink :lol:

Just back from the yearly pilgrimage to opel treffen, oschersleben with a few days at the Nurburgring to boot.

The nova made it out there and back albeit with some minor issues.

Firstly the exhaust manifold cracked 4 inches in front of the mid pipe joint causing a rather bad blow, this got more and more annoying until it completely split just outside Antwerp. Que spark filled diversion to the hard shoulder.

Quick ring around some local garages found me a very nice english speaking belgian who, after securing the hanging exhaust and a rarher noisy drive 10km up the road, quickly had the exhaust welded back together and we were all set for the 550km still left to go to get to the show.

At the show itself I discovered a fuel leak dripping straight onto the exhaust manifold :O so that was hastily repaired to. With some sleeving, jubilee clips and good old leccy tape.

A few days of carnage ensued, most of which are very hazy because of the demon drink lol :cheers:

But I did decide to crack out the cleaning gear and get the old girl into the show and shine (for ****s and giggles).

so after spending the whole day sat in the baking sun with no shade at all I was duly burnt to a sinder.

Got everything packed up and hit the autobahn again and headed up to the ring. Although on the way there the car developed a brake fault causing it to violently dive to the right when braking. Que a major brown pants moment on a nice twisty flowing road on the way from the hotel to Adenau. I also found a new blow where the manifold flange weld had crack and left a pinhole. Quickly sealed with gungums finest exhaust putty.

As for the brakes, one pad on the drivers front had separated from its friction material and the passenger front calliper was sticking on slightly. It was too late to get replacement parts so they are now in need of replacement.

You may have thought that would stop me giving it hell around the ring.......... well no it didn't. :D

Eibach -60 heated up and shrunk diwn to -70 I believe but greame should be able to spread more light on that as he fitted tgem on it. I've swapped to gaz coilovers on the front now and will be looking to swap the rears to coilovers soon as well.

The skirts added the final touch to the gsi theme that's going on. I did them for my old saloon and they were one of the last few remaining parts I had so they were the natural choice for me.
