hi im currently running a 16se bottom end and was just wondering what other engine codes i an run??
also has any one ever noticed that the bores go eggy shape when pistons travel down?
i had it honed and fitted new rings and noticed it before building the rest of the engine up, as i was tight on money at the time i fort id give it a go, but has smoked on idle and running ever since, iv done everything on the head so it can only be the rings letting oil through, can any one help please?

Have you done a compression test?

Not yet waiting for the tool in the post
Oval bores are a sure sign of a worn engine I'm afraid. Rebore and new (oversize) pistons needed

So the engine has properly done 200,000 you reckon? I dono what to do now should I buy another bottoms end and swop all the bits over and what's a good milage for a 1.6
if you have got visually oval bores you have major problems mate
A good milage? define good? 0 or 1.2million miles on original oil??
get a z16se bottom end. or find some oversize pistons & get it bored. then buy a new oil pump & get the crank checked/reground & fit new shells to suit.
get a z16se bottom end
This.
Good advice.
Where from I wonder? lol
I thought you got the e16/z16se hybrid by chance....lol

Cheers I'v just been looking round the car breakers for a bottoms end but can't see the milage on the new cars as the clocks are all digital :-(
whats a milage to stay away from? I haven't got a clue.. to me something around 70,000 is good
Also how easy is it to fit oversize pistons and what about the rings etc? Where do I find these parts as well
you find an engine machine shop & get a quote off them for a rebore & supply of the new pistons (they will come with rings)

Sounds expensive rough price at all?
4-600 ish depending on pistons

I'v uploaded some pics to http://s1247.photobucket.com/user/AaronG_1988/profile please have a look and see what you think, I'v noticed one bore wasn't firing so I reckon the smoke I had was excess fuel, also bores look pretty good I must of been thinking of something else

Is the link working people??
You say the heads all good, how can you be sure of this? did you check the valve guides?

Just looked but impossible to see what ure asking in the photos tbh
You need a vernier gague and measure the sizes of the bore at a few points it should all be the same size if not its obevisly oval and ure looking at the above money for a build, or get a used block and build that but get it checked first I think I have a 16sv block there if ure intrested
Vernier gauge is not accurate enough.
You need a dial bore gauge or the bore gauge that you set with a micrometer to the spec size then measure in various points

I wanna know is from someone that's had a 1.6 8v honed and the gape around the pistons is about the same as what I'v got! I'v spent the money on it now so ain't worth taking it all apart again! Arp bolts etc!!
I had the head on it earlier and the compression is the same in all bores
if one bore is not firing at all then there is no combustion pressure so surely oil pressure from the block will push up past the rings as its running??
I had the same problem when my Clio cracked a piston but a compression test showed this while the nova has the same across all bores
Yea I checked guides when I built it last, the heads only done 70-80,000 and its been port and polished at some point
