So basicly i drive my nova everyday for work, i deliver parcels so having the parcel shelf in the back when i have already ripped the rear seats out is a bit annoying as it takes up so much space and having a nova van that is the one thing im tight for. Im basicly looking for some speakers i can fit in the dash. They dont have to be the loudest, just good quality and loud enough to hear over the old nova engine ;)

what do people suggest?
Will i have any problems getting speakers in the dash?
What else will i need?

I fitted some 10cm Pioneer jobbies in the dash and they were fine with a standard volume Nova (i.e. no cherry bomb exhaust). Needed a bit of cutting to fit properly but went in securely.

This is a mk2, mk1 is a different ballgame I think.

Do all 4 inch speakers just twist in like the original nova ones or or were they designed specificlly to be mounted like that? If i buy kenwood or pioneer etc will i have to screw them down or will they twist in.

Why not door mount them? Mean you have more room for bigger (means a bit better) sizes.

didn't really want to cut the doorcards up. so was just going to get some to go in the dash again

Mk1 dash, they have two screws and two brackets to sit in, most 10cm speakers should fit this, get bass haevy ones and yu should notice the difference

, mk2 are specifically made twist in speakers, these speakers are not too bad, it's just the dash is so acoustically bad that the small amount of bass the speakers give is lost.

I ahve found that not putting full extra bass on dash speakers is the best comprimise as you hardly notice the difference until they distort at lower volume

I'm looking into this myself to be honest as i only have one speaker working!

Looked at some nice JVC 4" Speakers the other day with the 2screw fitting... reckon this should be okay? i am going to fit them myself rather than let the stereo place fit them, dont want anything breaking!

- Thanks.

Yes if speakers are not in the dash then ther are two screw holes and two clips for each speaker, remove the glovebox and the black plastic air vent and get a torch in you'll see it.

I hide mine behind them, much nicer and you don't need to cut the front of the card (only trim the wood on the back..

Before.

on the pass side it's glove box and venting out, I think the driver's side is more fiddly, instrument cluster and move the fuse box if I rememeber correctly (been a few years)

For better sound on my 84 swing I have rear 4" speakers (aftermarket ones) fitted in the rear parcel shelf supports with the carpet stuff still on them, it doesn't really hamper the sound and you can't see them. Also a massive improvement with bass acoustics compared to any speakers ever fitted to a dash.

I changed them as the GSI cards at the start had them holes when i got them. Which i found looked untidy.
Bought a better set (bins/handles where less marked) with no holes. Was the point of the job.

wonder if 6/9 speakers would fit there?? As I have a set but not wired up yet due to no parcel shelf.....Intended to buy a shelf, but.....that looks like a much better idea!!! :) :)

If you cut down the bottom metal of the door yes. To drop the speaker right down..
As the check strap will hit them when the door closes if not.

If you can't run a rear shelf, reinforce the rear cards with some mdf and fit 6x9 there. Lots of room, then sound deadaen the rear quarter skin.

Rear cards are where a back seat passenger would put their elbow...
