Can anybody tell me exactly which engine and gearboxes these are please. They are (probably) from a 1991 1400

Can you see a stamped engine number? If so, it should tell you the engine type on there. If it is a 1.4 it could be a 14NV or C14SE etc.

The gearbox should have a stamped in number on the outside of the casing at the bottom. It could be an F10, F13 or F15. It should also be stamped WR for wide ratio or CR for close ratio. Then the final number will be the final drive ratio like 3.74:1, 3.94:1, 4.18:1 etc.
For example a GTE box is F13CR 3.74:1 if I remember correctly.

Looking at the oil breather on the back of the block I suspect it is a 14NV.

Aha, I'm looking at the wrong numbers then. I will see if I can have a look tomorrow. I have seen those designations discussed on here, I will do some googling.

While we are at it is that what I think it is... a LSD :-)

It is not a standard diff so likely to be an LSD

Cheers, I hoped that it was, I will have to do some research into how to take advantage of a LSD in a FWD car, I've never driven one, I have owned more RWD cars than front.
