My headlights on full beam seem dim they are brand new with new bulbs could it be a bad earth?

Id say so, mind you nova headlights arn't the brightest. A set of really decent bulbs sorted mine out.

Or you may have a weak alternator

Alternator is brand new unit early this year pal.
bad earth, aged wiring, poor quality bulbs, knackered reflectors all contribute to poor lights I have a set of hid's in mine with the halfrauds 6000k 501 led bulbs for the sidelights and they are spot on just need a new headlight now where my reflector is blackened due to age. i was hoping to split the glass off the front and use chrome spray to restore it but I broke the glass

Only decent bulbs will help if you've replaced the headlights tbh. Just double check the wiring as you've said as they tend to corrode over time.
