thoughts on tuning a 1.4 to be as quick as a redtop? i know its a push but i know someone has got a 1.4 to 141 at the wheels but for autograss :O

im thinking:
1400 bored out
steel crank and rods
baffled sump
head skimmed
bigger valves
fast road cam and vernier
4 branch manifold
bike carbs
f13/f10 box with a 2.14 cluster and possibly a 4.1 diff
then setup on rolling road

probs forgot a few things but off top of my head thats what im planning !!

sounds good.

you have just listed things you can do to an engine. specifics like cam spec, how much you plan on boring it, who or what is done to the had will be important.

if you did those things to a 1.2 to the right extent it would be faster than a "red top"

I ran a 1600 8v that could show a red top up,
Lightened and balanced
unknown rods and pistons with arps
ported skimmed and flowed head with larger valves and double springs 4 branch and single box 2.5" ex system (stupid loud flat out lol)
9k rev limit and all on std injection

it was a mix of z 16se c16se and c14se

Mike price who had the 200 brake xe nova will testify how quick it was. I presume the 1400 can be fettle with similar results

a standard 1400 sr will beat a c20xe round the right track.

Why as quick as a 20xe. For what a steel crank, rods, pistons etc cost. Do the same to a 20xe and run 260-270bhp.

what revs you want too use, anything over 12.5mm lift on the 8v engines and all your doing is revving for sake of it. Some autograss lads are building 1day engines as such. Running 13mm+ lift and due to how aggressive the cam is they wear out every meet.

standard crank with last at 8.5k rpm. Steel oil pump gears, balanced and arps should suffice tbh. Std rods and pistons will also support the revs too. Headwise 14se are same size valves as the 16se iirc. Im building a couple of 16se's and possibly a 14se for autograss with pretty much above spec with 12mm cam lift, solids etc. Any higher and its wasted/wear engine quicker.

The 1.4 I have in my car on some roads feels as quick as my old xe my engine is a mix of 1.4nv bottom end a c14se head piper bp300 cam with twin 40s and on the rollers gave 108-111 bhp
