Made a ic out of cardboard, then you can test fit it. How i did it, so i knew how far to sink it in and such.

There are 4 lugs on the frontera ic that I cut off 2 at top point upwards. And 2 that point out sideways about half way down. I cut all 4 off. The ones on top where no problem. But be carfull cutting the side ones! See 2nd pic down. Dont try to cut off anymore than what I did. The bit left on the side is hollow. (I had to have mine repaired coz I cut to deep)

Dont think its much problem when using gsi bumper. But youll need to take them off as best you can to fit under std one.

I also had to cut away the crash bar that sits in back of front bumper.

All thats left is a bit about 7" long on each side that connects to the fitting bracket.

See i was trying to figure out if you could fit one from a frontera up the other way round, so it sits close to the slam, and half behind the bumper etc, as i reckon on a mk1 all in one theres possibley enough room behind the grill area with a slight bit of trimming..

Not sure about that scott. I don't think restricting air to the radiator would be a good compromise.
Running a let or any other bigger engine on a 1.6 rad is pushing limits imo. And the grill opening is yhe the largest and it has the biggest void behind it to aid through flow.
Where my ic sits 1/3 has cross membet behind it. But bumper opening sits over the upper half. (Which still has rad behind that. And turbo right behind rad) all restricting air flow.
My priority would/was/is

Rad
Ic
Oil cooler

I was thinking of using some small front mount blowing fans on the rad, and if enough room another on back pulling air.

If you use good slim line fans, you wont need 3. I use to small ones (7inch) on the front of my rad, They cool it really well.
