I did one in 2000 still in the family my brother has it now, saloon 3dr wr1 blue with scooby bumper. He's also got another one now from eBay

I used a mk2 astra estate/van talegate as my bulkhead alloy checker for the deck,c20xe big rear bumper and batch rear arches wieldedvin to remove the round saloon ones did very little on adding strength as just made good all the work needed ad wielded tailgate in place then cut it to same level as the window ledges
Only pics I have of it on my phone

You think you could get any side on pics dude?

Daz has mentioned the more door loons looked better as pickups lol and it got me thinking as the doors are smaller,

What did you do in regards to the roof with welding it up? Or is it just filled etc as the gap looks fairly big :/

To be honest thow they both look sweet!

In regards to strengthening the rear is there much to weld to or did the chequer plate strengthen it up?

Contact Adam Dewis on Migweb. He built a 5dr saloon pickup many years ago and it looked good.

I have few photos of it my pc broke and I lost loads. Ye the whole thing is welded properly I cut the lip off at the window bottoms and just leveled the line to the back cut roof oversize and put tailgate under and tacked in place then trimmed the roof to size . Had to fill in the gap at the side between tailgate and b pillars.

Yes I think a more door will look good did think if I did another would do a more door for that reason.
The checker plate is bonded to the shell so yes it's part of the strength, boot floor is a pain as its so all over the place and always had hastle. Getting it to stop leeks from the back into the cab.

Once you've slotted the tailgate in place you simple push the roof skin down to meet the tailgate and weld it. This puts the roof under tension and makes it extremely strong. Ive a pic somewhere of me standing on the roof lol. Baxter should have some threads somewhere of the ones I did for him

Ye as burgo said its solid I to would happily stand on the roof of mine, probably did at some point

Compared to what I removed ie c pillar boot and metal work etc I think whst I put back in was stronger! The astra tailgate is a pretty tough structure to add to the shell. Only downfall of it is to get the window looking right the lower part angled towards the front but fixed that with the checker.

I'm tall so I fitted seats as far back as possible before fitting the bulkhead.
Also getting it level before chopping is a must I had it packed at at min 8points rear leg cill and front cross member.
I think I had cill front and back so 8 points

I leveled cill front to back and across the bolts on the cross member, think I leveled the bolt holes for the rear bumper as not much at the back to go off but if its level to start it's a good chance it will be at the end

This. Plus 2dr saloons generally are worth ££££ where as nobody likes moar doars lol So you could probably pay for the entire project by selling a 2dr and buying a 4dr + all the bits needed + change lol

Is Bubba's hatch that he pickup'ed a 5dr? That would be the same up to the B pillar as a 4dr so the work round that point would be the same.

Nova roof all the way back then just cut to suit the size that's why you cut the roof long then re cut when the tailgate is fitted

Chris how much do you want those wheels!

It used to be 15 different colors when I first Moted it

Its all still planning atm dude wether it happens or not who knows,

Everyone keeps telling me not to bit I think it would be awesome!

The hardest bit would seem to be finding a mk2 astra boot lol

Another option would be compare dimensions ftom mk2 tail gates to mk3 and 4 as they are prob similar and I'm sure someone on here will have or get the sizes of them to see. The mk2 one only needed 1" cutting of on the sides and a trim at the bottom and the curves suited it well but needs must

I didnt trim the tailgates on any of the ones ive built
