Hi,

I've put a new engine and box into my 1.0 Nova, which changes it from 4 speed to 5 speed.

Last night I locked the gearbox with a drillbit, and had a friend keep the gearstick at left neutral while I locked the pinchbolt.
Seemed to work had all gears, but this morning on the drive into work, I'm finding it harder to select 1st and 2nd.

So I need more left movement at the stick to get those gears.

Where should the stick be with the gearbox locked ?

Neutral middle ?

Heard about people cutting a lug off the stick plastics, do I need to do that ?
Is there a difference between a 4speed gearstick and a 5speed?

I would start by grinding off the lug on the right hand side of the selector which will give you more room and the put it in 1st and rea adjust the linkage that way

So adjust it to definately get 1 and 2, the lug removed it will be enough reach for 5th

I done mine by putting the engine into 1st and setting the linkage up in the position for 1st gear with that lug chopped off and that will give you 5th

Will try that then Cheers !

Bit better but still an awkward change to 2nd...but do have 5th

Will look to tighten up all linkages (even maybe rose joint link mod)

What engine have you fitted?

Thé drill method does work but I put the box in first and get someone to hold the stick just back from where you wanted first then tighten the linkage. Make sure all the pins are in properly as that makes it feel floppy:)

I just hold the stick in the middle (over 3/4) and leave the box out of gear. Tighten, try it.
If you dont have a gear, loosen the nut and move the stick a tiny amount in the way it moves due to gear (as in left a bit for 1/2 right a bit for 5th)
