I got stopped 2 days ago by the police doing emmsions checks. Basically my 1.3SR is fine at 2.5K revs but failed badly on idle, both co2 and hydrocarbons

I took it home and turned the idle mix screw down as far as it goes without affecting the smoothness of the idle note. This was half a turn, about 180 degrees.

Is half a turn likely to be enough of a weakening to bring it back down to legal levels or wll it have hardly affected it?

The levels recorded on Wednesday were

2.5K rpm Co2 2.12
Idle Co2 5.40
Idle HC 2010

Nothing better to do eh, I take it they told you to go get it sorted?

Supposed to be an Aberdeen air quality issue, I asked him could I turn the screw down there and then to see if it lowers the Co2, the probe was still up it, he said no, but I can drive away and do what I want. His colleague then passed saying " an ice cap a year for that eh". If they were so worried about air quality they should have welcomed the 15 seconds it would take me to turn a screw down.

The biggest improvement in air quality here would be investing in ways to make it warmer lol

emissions test sounds a bit harsh. bloody pigs.

im running the same as you, and i thought mine was ok myself, but come mot time the test kicked out 10% .. quite a bit over the 3% limit.

the guys at the garage gave mine a twiddle for that mot. they turned it down to about half a turn which set it at 1% on their machine. so id imagine anywhere from 180-220 would probably be pretty good.

every engines a little different tho, so that's just a general figure based on my own 1.3 2e

That's great thanks, if 180 ish turned yours from 9 to 1% then I should be fine, they might look out for me because his attitude of not letting me try there and then really hacked me off and then with the other ignorant comment, in my temper I did wheel spin taking off.....silly immature boy.
