Or anyone with good knowledge of York city. Where is Lendal bridge? Last time I was there I went over it without realising it's closed to vehicles except buses (and possibly taxis) and got a £30 fine (thankfully the boss paid this one as 'the first one is a freebie' he said) the only bridge I remember going across is one where a pub called The Maltings is.

Before I went over the bridge by The Maltings I noticed it had restricted access painted on the road so I stopped and watched to see what else would go over it, a few cars and a van went over it before me so I thought I'd just go over.

Google image search also shows the Lendal bridge as something completely different to the one I went over to get to The Maltings.

Evening....

The maltings is down the side of lendal bride so if you took that picture from the view above then you were stood on it! It is shut between 1030 - 5pm with taxis and buses generally being the only exceptions. They state it's a temporary idea however the general theory is it will become permanent. Apparently they made tens of thousands in the first two weeks from fine revenue!! If you have need to cross it try make it before or after the times above and I'm sure your boss will be happier lol

Enter the city via A19. Turn right at Clifton Green signposted Acomb. Cross river by Clifton Bridge (rather than Lendal Bridge) then come in via Leeman Road. This will avoid you using Lendal Bridge.

Nick, that picture is from google images. I'm down York again on Friday the 11th and I've already told my boss and the lad in the office I need to be down there as early as possible as I was in the pedestrian zone til 10:40 (set off at 8am) and could have had a ticket then too! So on Friday I think I'll be setting off at 7 get there for 8 and hopefully have plenty of time to do all the pubs in the pedestrian area. Thanks for clearing that up for me though Nick!

Kent14sr yeah I went down the A19 last time but I deliver to pubs in the order of my paperwork for two reasons 1 its how the head brewer planned the route out using google maps and 2 sometimes I have to deliver to a pub between certain times. I'm going to have to get a road map of York or update the satnav and hope it takes into consideration the Lendal bridge closure, I doubt it will though but at least now I know not to cross it between certain times.

I hear this bridge closure has caused uproar, as it is enforced via cameras so offenders receive their penalty through the post.

Notification of the closure is poor I am told with minimal signage warning of it, and the real reason boils down to the recent sale of Leonards Place Council Offices to a hotel chain and the hotel's desire for it to have a pedestrianised frontage.

There was an article in the local paper about a specialist award winning brewery cancelling all deliveries to York over this - not sure if this was yours?

Despite my username I lived in York for 27 years and my employer at one time was next door to the Maltings - Leedhams (York) Ltd, the Vauxhall main dealer until they sold out to CD Bramall and the site closed.

I heard exactly the same story and it is indeed causing mayhem. At the end of the day it's a busy route and the traffic has to go somewere! Just causes grief elsewhere now!

Yeah the owner, Mark, got the penalty notice through his door lol when I went in this morning the head brewer (Michael) told me Mark said they should frame it and hang it up in the office lol Michael wanted to get a colour photo from York council and get it blown up and posted on the wall. *******s lol

No it wasn't the brewery I work for (Sonnet 43) we're a micro brewery* and as York is 'the unofficial ale city of the UK' they wont be missing a chance to get our ales into York, no matter how many fines I have to pay. Surprised I haven't had a parking ticket yet from any city tbh.

If that reason is genuine then that's pretty sh!t of a council to be won over with a few £ at the command of a hotel chain! Just goes to show how much they value their tourism and citizens.

What's it like for a drink in The Maltings? I noticed a sign outside saying 'No smoking, no swearing, a proper pub' I thought the pub is where the lads went for to let off some steam, shout swear and abuse their mates, to me that's a proper pub.

*and a damn good one, people keep stopping me in the streets and telling me how good it is!
