I've decided to pick myself up a cheap winter run around. Although there are probably better value for money options out there I decided on a Corsa B as it's pretty much the same set up as the Nova and they are cheap to buy/insure/run. Is there anything to watch out for on the B models or area prone to rust that need looking at in particular? I'm just looking at base models, 50-60k on the clock and spending around 750-900.

The other option is go for an early C model with slightly more miles for around the same kind of money. Any thoughts on pro's or cons doing this over going for the B?

Only thing's I can think of are rust and cracked B pillars.

They are just a rust bucket in general mate but id much rather have the corsa b than the corsa c, but that could be me being biast as i own a corsa gsi

boot floor, suspension mounts, sills, chassis were the bottom arm sits prone to going there pretty badly

Front panel actually rots worse than a nova.. where the rad sits. I would try to get a c if budget allows. No rust, quieter and generally more refined. Slower though and the 1.2 suffer with timing chains and or tensioners!

I just want a cheap reliable run around for winter to get me to work and back but I don't want to be battling with major rust if I can help it. Slow and boring doesn't bother me. I think I'm due a break from modifying at the moment. The budget will stretch to a C. It just has to be an early one with higher miles.

Corsa C would be a better option if you can afford

If you can stretch to a C sxi, you'll be laughing. Alloys, air con and 'sports' seats

Cheap tidy c's are out there. My face lift Corsa c sri 1.8 on a 53 plate 87k I got for £450 as it had faults. New ac compressor and a set of plugs and it runs spot on.
Love it to bits.

Well I went to view a few cars. I got a little pissed off after 4 local ones being described as "mint" or "unabused". Maybe I'm being very picky but they all had faults that were blatently obvious and owned by people who just don't care about the way they are kept. I think the B is defo off the card as they were all pretty rotten and battered as had been mentioned. I'd sooner drive the Nova without normal seats and heaters all winter than one of them. My Mini sold over the weekend so I'm just going to replace it with one car for now instead of trying to stretch two out of the budget. I should be able to source a really nice C just for the wife to use. I have a friend with a C SXI+ so I went out in it this weekend and was actually pretty impressed by it all round.
