How long is a piece of string really, you pay for what you get in paint, and also how much prep work and rust is needed to be sorted aswell

I'd paint someone's car for £150. Would only cost £30 in cans and newspaper for masking I'll get off my nan! Not too sure how it would turn out though! lol

^ lol

I paid around £1000 for my full repaint. That was engine bay, door shuts, the whole shooting match. BUT, my mate (bodyshop worker) and i (i made tea and passed him sand paper, cleaned up lol) did 90% of the prep work, rubbing down base coat of primer etc. So all the paint shop had to do was tack rag, mask up and paint!

As said, you do 100% get what you pay for. Take a look at Nick J's WIP threads, you see the attention to detail he pays, and his results show!!

A grand does sound like a reasonable number to aim for, but if you give it them in a right state (arches hanging off, holes in doors etc) and a complete car (glass etc) it's gonna cost more I imagine.

Hand over anything less that a stripped rolling shell with no rust issues and pay less than a grand and you will regret it.

Just as a rule of thumb, of course.

Think mine was £1300 but I took a totally bare shell in and a lot of new panels.

Road worthy Nova, taken to bodyshop wanting doorshut, engine bay, underneath of bonnet, inside of doors and shuts, inside of boot, cross member, rear valence,i would charge 2000,that is me personally,i take pride in my work,i do not do it full time anymore, but my price is my price! Not trying to advertise either!

We respray some vans at work sometimes. Today I done a vauxhall vivaro in green.
I think my boss charges about £600. But thats just to take off the bits that need to come off, mask just inside the doorshuts and paint (i rub it down before I paint it of course) if there is any big bits of dust or runs I will polish them out and put it back together. A car would need more work and if you wanted it in base coat it would cost you more.
I think base coat is about £80 a litre now then you need clear over the top.

Brains
the base coat is water base but the clear coat is still solvent base, and Thats where the isocyanate is (the harmful stuff)
