Hi all, just currently playing around with some ideas at work on a project on these, I know people interchange the heads on these and mix and match some bits between engines, just wondering what the differences are in the head if there are some? I've tried using the search & google but not come up trumps with anything, other than people sell heads as 14XE/16XE but nothing that makes me believe they are the exact same. I know there are some people on here that are very clued up on here on them. If someone has an old bare 16xe kicking about like head and block, even if its scrap with bent valves hole in block etc, that going cheap that i could get some measurements from PM me.

Ill delete pm's didn't realise they were full. I've got a standard c16xe head, 814/16xe head and a portbored and fully ported head I can get measurements from. The ex ports will be identicle, its solely the inlets that vary. The head I've ported has had a lot of work done too it though, I'm just waiting on a new mobile and I should be able to get some before + after pics up too.

C16xe
X16xel
X14/16xe

They are the different heads.
x16xel has the best port shapes.

Everyone one says the xel head is better or should I say SBD do, but I'm still yet too see anyone use one. I'm down @ martin bowyers maybe once a month sometimes twice and haven't seen a single motor with an xel head. I did see a prototype dth xel tb though but there wasn't enough meet around the flange to match to an xel head properly. If anyone knows of anyone using an xel head I'd genuinely like too see it.

i would like to see pics of this as well.

was there a lack of meat around the manifold flange or the head its self?

Looks like im gonna have to source a few heads to cc then lol. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated :thumb:
I am also interested to find out which head is best to use on the 1400 bottom end, i shall be getting these heads and slinging them on our head flow bench, hopefully i can find the best flowing application (then make it better :) ) Oh and the reason i ask is that i am looking into designing a 2ring longer rod piston/rod kit for race/rally application for the 1.4 and 1.6 16v small blocks, and also to benefit for a ex-networkQ works nova rally car build i am involved in . Watch this space :d

I could speak to a couple of people and probably get a long rod/slipper set up already. Can also do custom rods but ill have too check if its 2 or 4 sets of rods you have too order. If pm name i can add you on fb and can have a look at some of the work ive been doing for lads. The head ive just portbored+ finished off was originally 22.25mm prior to throat and now 26.2mm, so a huge difference, the heads needs a fair bit of work to achieve big power.

Well i work for a company that designs and sells forged internals, so that's mainly why i'm doing it, as a catalog kit we can sell off the shelf :) Just doing abit of reading up before i get stuck into it. And me and friend are currently finishing off our flow bench at work, so this is going to be our first main head development project, its an out of work project so its going to be a learning curve lol
